Hello all,

Question for the decorators who create those fabulous LV bags! Does anyone have the "how-to" on them? I'm curious as to what pans to use and how to carve them. I was thinking of circle pans and halfing it (half moon), but it wouldn't look too natural. Any tips would be very appreciated!

Thank you!

I haven't done one yet, but in Colette Peter's book, Colette's Birthday Cakes, she does a few different designs. One is like a draw strring bag and she uses a 4", 6" and7" round (all2" high) and cuts away until the shape is reached. Another cake she starts with 8" & 9" square cakes. She halves the cakes and then stacks them, so she now has 4 layers and then shapes it from there.

I know that's not good instructions, but it might get you started.

Hi, I'm not sure what everyone else uses. I always use bread loaf pans, two examples of these are in my photos, the duffel bag and the purse. Hope this helps! Oh and the shopping bag purse is also out of loaf pans.

heychele,

Do you use only one bread loaf pan? How does cake batter bake in those and how long does it take it? Also, do you still carve them or leave them as is?

Great job with your bag cakes! They look awesome.

Hello!

When I did my LV bag I used bake my cake in a 9X13 pan and let it cool. The cake itself was not very high, probably about 1.5" and it was a nice dense cake. I used the Chocolate Layer Cake recipe that I have psoted here. I then put it into the freezer for about 20 mins to chill it really well. I then cut it into quarters along the 13" side. Using buttercream I stacked them and put into the fridge to chill the buttercream. Once taken out of the fridge I gently carved the top to round them off. Crumb coat wtih buttercram and then apply fondant. Once applied I hand painted the LV logo's on it, which took forever and wasn't great. Ellepal did a LV purse cake that was AWESOME and what they did was make a stencil to apply the LV logo to the fondant and then put that on the cake. Very neat and realistic looking.

Hope this helps!

Hi Cupcake Queen,
I used two loaf pans and than torted them, that way there's more icing and filling since even with mmf people usually peel it off. That way they still have plenty of icing in the center. I bake mine the same amout of time as two 8 inch rounds but my oven also cooks fast so make sure you check.
For the Chanel purse I did carve the ends just a little bit to be more rounded. The bags I just leave as is since I want more of a squared off shape.
Good Luck and thank you for the compliment!
