odd idea here -- for writing in chocolate w/ very fine lines (see posts about danish bakery) and for doing very fine detail in chocolate transfers...

would the electric wax pen used in Ukrainian Easter egg and batik fabric decorating be a possibility?

the ones I've seen have a small cup, a thermostat and some even come w/ multiple size tips?

any one here do the eggs or batik? Would you please try it and give a hollar back as to if it works.

I actually have done batiking and am beginning Pysanky now! I don't have an electric Tjanting or Kistka. Otherwise I'd try it. I have the old fashioned type of tools.

The only thing I can say is that the melting points of wax are: Beeswax...143.6-149F. Which is usually used in both arts. Sometimes in batiking, a combination of paraffin and micrcystalline is used. The melting point of paraffin is 127F. I know the electric tools have thermostats, but I don't know the temps it can handle.

I can't recall my chocolate facts at the moment but these temperature facts might help.

The only other thing I can say is that the cups are very small. So the process could be a long one. If you waited for the tool to heat the chocolate, the final product might look funny because parts of it would already be cooling while you are still waiting to continue on. I suppose you could have a pot of melted chocolate holding at the perfect temp and just keep filling the tool, rather than actually melting the chocolate in the tool.

It seems like it could work as long as the temp could be regulated enough.

I will be melting chocolate soon. Would you like me to try this (with my old fashioned non-electric tool) when I get to my next project and let you know????? It might give you a general idea.

Have you seen the size of the cups? How big are the electric style? Ive only seen the kind with really small cups in person lately. I used an electric tjanting some years ago, but I don't remember how big it was.

Can I ask what you are thinking of using it on? I'm not sure how it would work just suspended above a surface, since it is tradtionally used like a pen to draw directly on a surface.

Where is the post about the danish bakery you are referring to? I'd like to check that out.

I'd been reading the other thread too, and this idea just popped into my head.

If you want to try, hey...have fun, would be interesting to find out how it works.

and thanks too sofiasmami for getting all those links together.

Sorry Doug, I thought you were looking for more information than you actually were!

The electric tools can get expensive. That's why I gave you so much info. Didn't want you to waste money if you were about to buy one. I'll try it out soon. Now I'm curious about it too.
