Hi all,

Does anyone actually own the fountains for the wedding cakes? Where do you find these? I was asked to do a wedding cake that has a fountain, stairs, lattice materials. I'm new to "cake business" world. I have lots of cake stuff but not fountains, stairs, etc. Do I purchase these materials for the cake or does the bride buy it? If I purchase it, do I give these to the bride and include the cost into the cake?

Can you rent fountains?

In my area you can rent fountains although I own mine. I purchased it at my cake supply store but they also rent them out. I bought mine because 1 day every week they give a 20% of everything in the store discount, and it is aways from my home so I figured by the time I drove to pick it up, and then return it I may as well just by it for 20% off. Most people do incorporate the equipment rental into there prices, or if they own one they charge a rental fee for the fountain. At least in my area that is what they do. I'm not sure about your location. Stairs are really not that costly, so I treat them the same as I do seperator plates. I charge a depostit of the full replacement cost, of plates, pillars, and stairs, and then refund the deposit when all items, are returned in satisfactory condition, in the time frame I set for returns. Wilton sells both fountains, and stairs. So you may what to check wilton.com for pricing. For the fountain I also charge a full replacement deposit then give them back the amount over my rental fee, when returned. Hope this helps.

Wilma
