I do not know what I was thinking!!!!DUH! I am making my DD's 18th bday cake for tonight. I baked early, made the icing early and was going to put it together today. First one of the top layers was misshaped with a bubble thing on the side when I took it out of the freezer.... So I thought okay, I will just carve it out a bit and make it straight and smooth... .WRONG! My cakes are generally so moist, and it is, and a piece fell off the side! so Okay.... I can handle this my cakes are three inches and probably a little taller so... just make the top layer 3 in. Okay.... I put the top tier (stacked) on the bottom and begin the crumb coat..... thinking.. something doesn't feel right.... I had not even put the top layer on a cardboard circle.....I tried to get it off and the top layer started to come apart.....I hope it is going to be okay!!!!!!If it works... I will post pics!! Wish me luck, looks like I am going to need it!!!

buttercream works as a great glue. Good luck, many of us have had the same issues before and they are NEVER fun.
