I have some columns that have cherubs glued on at the bottom. I bought them at least 8 years ago. I forgot I actually had them until someone asked about them. Anyway, the glue that attaches the cherubs to the columns has turned yellow. I've bleached them and washed in hot soapy water, but no help. I know there is paint for plastics, but I don't think I can use that on surfaces that come in contact with food. So, does anyone know how to get the glue white again?

I would pose that question to Wilton (assuming they are Wilton)...they may even replace them for you....

There was a thread on the Wilton site about yellowing seperator plates and columns. Wash them and sit them in the sun to bleach them white again.

Washing them and putting them in the sun! Does this really work? I've tried bleach etc and nothing seems to work. Glue and the separator it self may be two different problems????? I'm curious and would love a solution that works! I'll have to try the sun!

I haven't tried it but that is what they were saying. It was a thread on the Wilton site before they changed it, at least 2 years. I do hope this works for you.

The plates and columns are still white, it's just the glue. I have them outside right now, so we'll see. I sent an email to Wilton, so as soon as I get a reply, I'll let ya'll know.

Did the columns come with the cherubs or did you glue them on yourself?

The cherubs were glued on when I bought them. I'm pretty sure it's from Wilton.

Have you tried using lemon juice? Or vinegar? Or bicarb soda? I use those on my Tupperware and it works great.

Well, Wilton responded and here's what they said:

Thank you for visiting our website. The following hint comes from our regional training instructor and is passed on to teachers at their seminars so hopefully it will help you.
For whitening yellowed pillars, plates, etc. add equal amounts of dishwasher powder and bleach to hot water and soak pieces for several hours.
Then wash with soapy water and rinse well.
Thank you and have a good day.

Sincerely,
Rosemary
