Ok..I searched around the forums for this but didn't come up with anything...

This is probably the stupidest question but....Can you airbrush modeling chocolate or do I have to just tint it first and shape it? I've got to make two hands coming out of a cake holding a Medicaid card and an AARP card. I haven't worked with candy clay before so this would be my first experience...nothing like taking on too much too fast! Any other suggestions on what I should use beside the candy clay? Appreciate any comments!

I think Duff has airbrushed modeling chocolate....wasn't his Fist of Rock cake airbrushed modeling chocolate?

We colored modeling chocolate in school, but I can't remember if we used colors specifically for candy. I don't see why you couldn't airbrush...but that would be my only concern, whether to use airbrush colors or to thin candy coloring. Anybody know?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can. I've painted on modeling chocolate with gels/vodka and also with luster dusts/vodka with no problems.

I've airbrushed on chocolate and candy melts.....not the clay though......in my experience it just takes longer to dry before you can handle it than fondant or frosting takes!

I tint the candy clay with no problems. After I make a batch of candy and let it set. I take out the necessary amounts and dye them. The are very easy dye and mold and the colors hold. I have painted on it. It wasn't easy but it worked. If you look at my easter baskets, the handles are candy clay dyed. On my surfer care, the surfer, and fish are all candy clay. I also have a baby shower cake that the face is made out of candy clay. I find it easy to use and everyone loves to eat it. That may help you decide. Good Luck!

I don't think it will airbrush smoothly. It tends to repel water. Fondant and gumpaste airbrush great!
