I will be making a jungle/safari birthday cake. There will be fondant molded animals and palm trees on the cake. How much extra should i charge for the fondant decorations?

How big are they? How many are there? How long did/well it take you to make them?

There are 3 animals an elephant, tiger, and a bear along with 4 palm trees. They will not be that big i'd say maybe 3 in tall. i've never done fondant animals so i'm not sure how long it will take

I dont know I f this will help but I have just dont two cakes one of penguins and one of a horse and rider,,

All modelled free hand and I charged £40.00 so about $65.00 think I might have undercharged though.....do find it difficult and tend to say a price then get carried away......

Now thinking about it probably should have charged more but they where both for the same lady and hopefully will get more business out of it...

Alycakes,
I also am doing a jungle cake this weekend! I am curious, did you make your palm trees out of fondant or did you buy the plastic ones?

I am only charging $35 for mine (1 layer - half sheet plus 1 layer 6in for the birthday boy) - not nearly enough, but i don't have the guts to charge what I should.

If I could charge what I really wanted - i would have charged $55.

you know you can make palm trees out of pretzel rods and royal icing. I did this for my jungle cake. Just might be easier than hand molding the with fondant. Good Luck.

I was planning on making the pretzels with royal icing as s_raines suggested. i gave a price of $35 also but i completely agree with you i'd like to charge more. Just worried i might turn them away to someone cheaper.

If you are good at what you do, don't worry about turning them away to someone cheaper. Generally, people will pay a little more for work they know will be good. I have also run into not charging enough sending them to someone else. Some people feel that if you undercharge, you may not be sure of what you're doing, so they will go to someone they believe knows what they are doing (they believe this based on price). I was floored when this first happened to me, then someone explained it to me this way, and it made sense!

I think it depends how long it takes you. This one took me a LONG time, but I only do cakes for my daughter's bday basically, so I don't charge. I probably would charge an extra few bucks per figurine depending on the size and complexity.

If they want someone cheaper, let them!! Remember this is your time and engery you are taking away from your life and your family to do something for them!!

One of the biggest reasons for cake burn out is charging to little for your hard work. You start to resent doing cakes because with everyone you know that you are not going to make any money.

You are making them a custom cake... They need to pay the price for a custom cake. They wouldn't be able to walk into Walmart or the local grocery store and get molded fondant animals. They are asking for something special and more time consuming!
