http://shop.pattycakes.com/SAPPHIRE/items.asp?CartId={724526D1-2873-45D7-98E1-E0A158134E9E}&Cc=DMMY

Hopefully this link will work. If not it's www.pattycakes.com.
And the online shopping and then click on the link that says cake dummies. A 6x4 is 2.99. Seems they have alot of different sizes. Hopefully this will help you out.

Someone on here suggested Dallas Foam, but I haven't purchased from them yet. http://www.dallas-foam.com/products1.html

I have actually used just the plain styrofoam rounds you can pick up at any craft section! I leave them in their original plastic wrappers they come in and wrap with Saran Wrap. You can stack as many as you need to make the desired height. I also save sheets of styrofoam packing to use in the same manner, I just trim to my desired size with a serrated knife. When you want to reuse the dummy-simply remove the plastic wrap and start over!

I live at least an hour from most cake decorating suppliers and this is what is readily available for me! HTH!

Thanks for the tips! I've purchased them from a local cake supplier and I find the prices way to high.

I've started making my own. I'm using that spray foam from Home Depot called "Great Stuff." You have to do it in steps because the stuff won't cure all the way through if you try to do too much at one time. And, the can can't be reused. You have to use it all at one time. So, I set up several pans and put a small layer in them until the foam is gone. Once those have cured, I'll go back and add another layer. Don't know if it'll take more than two steps or not...they're not done yet. When they're done, I'll saw off the tops level with the top of the cake pans and they should work quite well. I've used Great Stuff for lots of projects before. It IS great stuff.

To prepare the pans, spray with cooking spray and then line with criss-crossed plastic wrap. The cooking spray will make the plastic wrap grab the sides of the pan. Then just spray the first layer of foam in the pans and set aside to cure.

I'm doing this so I can get weird shapes like hearts, ovals and hexs - and they'll be exactly the same size as my cakes since I'm using my pans as molds.

I've done the great stuff thing too, but I won't use my pans. I made a frame out of wood, and used wax paper. I made it 3 inches thick, and let it dry for 3-4 days, that way it was all cured through. You can carve it up that way after it's all done. Of course your way there's no waste, but I'd be afraid something would go wrong and my pans would be unsuable.

Crimsicle: I too have used spray foam to make dummies, but never used it in a cake pan...that's a great idea! When I used it I made cupcake dummies! I just filled a disposable muffin tin with cupcake liners, and sprayed a small amount of foam into each cup, just be careful, the foam can expand right out of the pan LOL!

I have found cheap dummies, but because of the size, shipping is always crazy because it turns the box into an oversize item even though it weighs next to nothing.

Maybe I should try using cake dummies to show people what I can do and expand my portfolio, since I haven't had my first order yet, it would be a good way to practice and to get more pictures of my work!!!

I bought a 4 piece hexagon set--all 4 inches high--from foamfun on Ebay. The set was $14.25 and shipping from OK to OH via UPS was $7.64--less than $22 total! They were shipped quickly and very well packed. I'll be ordering more shapes from them in the future.

Just received my order from Dallas Foam and I'm very happy! I ordered 2 square sets(6, 10, 14) and two rounds (6, 10, 14), three 9 x 13's and two additional 6 inch squares and two additional 6 inch rounds and S&H and tax was only $26. I thought that was pretty reasonable for 19 dummies! icon_biggrin.gif Only took a week to receive too! WOHOO!!!!!!

I also ordered from Dallas Foam and received my order in about 1-1/2 weeks. I ordered 1 each of the 6, 8, 10, 12, & 14 inch rounds and 1 each of the same size in squares, (2) 9x13, (2) 18x12, (2) 6" hearts and (2) 12" hearts and shipping to me in NC was only like 19.00. I was very happy with the quality of the dummies and the shipping. Also there is another website I found that sells dummys also but I have never ordered from them before http://www.taylorfoam.com/taylorfoam_com/cakedummies/
