Do the grooves on the wilton turntable serve a purpose? I have the cheap $12 one. I've had this thing for ages and never paid any attention to them. But it got me wondering...maybe they're there for a reason! Do the grooves help guide you in smoothing or are they purely decorative?

I think they are there just to help center your cake on the turntable.

I don't know what there true purpose is, if any, but I usually know that if my cake is centered in the middle, then I can rest my elbow on the table and turn it, and it keeps it at the same distance all the way around so you have even and smooth icing.
