I think its 2 or 3 cups.Check the Wilton site there is a chart there. I use 1 box for 2 nine inch pans, half and half.....

I am not sure how many cups...I fill my pans alittle more than 1/2 full. I like for the cake to bake a little bit high. I then level off the excess on the top. icon_smile.gif

Cake batter measurements by volume. These measurement are filled to the brim. Figure 1/2 or 2/3 of that amount to get how much batter you need. I hope I'm making sense!
Round:
5x2    2 2/3 cups
5x3    3 ½ cups
6x2    3 3/4" cups
6x3    5 cups
7x2    5 ¼ cups
7x3    8 cups
8x2    7 cups
8x3    9 cups
9x2    8 2/3 cups
9x3    14 cups
10x2  10 2/3 cups
10x3  14 cups
12x2  15 ½ cups
12x3  22 cups
14x2  21 cups
14x3  28 cups

Rectangular:
10 ½x15 ½x1  10 cups
12 ½x17 ½x1  12 cups
11x7x2    8 cups
13x9x2    15 cups

Square:
8x8x2  8 cups
9x9x2  10 cups
10x10x2  12 cups
12x12x2  16 cups
14x14x2  24 cups

For a 2in cake layer Wilton suggests using 5.5 cups of batter in the 9in pan. So if you were doing two then you need at least two box mixes depending on the brand/flavor.

Most of the character pans call for one box mix, though some like the stand up pans call for 6 cups of batter.

The DH mixes vary depending on flavor. They usually range between 5 and 6 cups. I do know that their butter recipe makes 6 cups. White seems closer to the 5 cup to me. Lemon and chocolate are between 5 and 5.5 I think.

Best thing to do is measure next time you make one of each flavor. If you do any kinda of doctoring that can affect how much batter you get too. Make a list and keep it handy and ever so often (6 months or a year) you can remeasure just to check and see.

The amount of batter varies depends on what flavor cake. I've gotten as little as 5 cups and just over 6 cups. I always measure it out.

Thanks for all of your help, and such quick replies!! I decided to use one box per pan, so we'll see. The first is in the oven as we speak. I hope it doesn't run over the edge!! The last time I used 1 box per 2 pans, as directed on the box,and my cakes were only about 1 inch high, so I'm hoping this will work okay...

I never measure, just pour until 2/3 full or little more.
