This is what I will be doing for a girl shower cake in a couple months. The bottom layer will be two 10" rounds. The next layer will be two 8" rounds. They will be midnight blue. Then I am making MMF bright yellow stars to stick all over them. Then the very top layer is half the ball pan cut into a crescent moon shape. The "moon" will be dowelled to stand up straight on top. And a little baby in a crib toy is laying in the crescent. Then on the sides on the top round layer, I'm writing "I see the moon, the moon sees me..." and on the bottom I'm writing "God bless the moon, God bless me."

Misdawn's idea sounds really great! When you said the ball pan for a baby shower I immediately thought of a baby rattle cake.
There are some cute ones in the gallery.

DiscoLady did one that I think is so cute. Here it is:

That is EXACTLY what popped into my mind too. I really think the rattle cake is just SOOO cute.

edited to add: Disco lady's cake is adorable. It really caught my eye, so it was the first thing I thought of . She did a great job. So sweet.

Mudpie: Thats so funny because as soon as I read ball pan & baby shower Discolady's cake is the first thing that popped into my mind. That why I had to post it.

I did this for my SILs baby shower and it was a big hit, but we had TONS of left-over cake (a good thing in my mind! lol).

You could use half of the ball pan to make a crib?

I did an easy one with half of the ball pan. The ribbon is bubble gum that you can buy on a roll. It was a very easy cake.

I did this just a few days ago. I used half a ball pan and two cupcakes. For the dress first I drew a pattern on paper and traced it on the fondant.
