Hi Susan, I don't know what else to say to do, except get to Walmart for more Wilton red, since there isn't anyplace else to go! I can't imagine why you aren't getting red with what you have put in...is this an extra large batch of icing?

If you have orange and yellow on hand it might make red, I'm not sure (try a small amount to test it). Sorry I'm not much help, but at least you aren't alone! Janice

The more I think about the orange and yellow, the more crazy it sounds, don't know what I was thinking about, because it doesn't make sense!
As usual I can't find a color chart when I need one.

I finallly found a color chart! It says to one red red add one touch black! I guess that makes about as much sense as orange and yellow! Janice

Get it as dark as you can and then possibly use a can of spray red? Or airbrush if you have one?

I know it might be too late but you could get the red chocolate melts from WalMart and start your icing with that then add your food coloring. Should get you a red icon_smile.gif

You know I had an issue with the Super red not turning the icing red either. I actually ended up chucking the batch out because it was this disgusting off red pink orangish gross colour thumbsdown.gif What worked was when I had separated the icing into smaller bowls to colour them, and I put just a couple drops and it was such a nice bright red! icon_confused.gif (in my photos the picture of the Valentine lip cookies). Maybe oh maybe if you divided up the icing and tried colouring it that way it would work? I'll cross my fingers for you that the icing finally turns red!

I wish I'd been up and caught your post in the wee hours this morning! I'd have told you to just put a lid on it and put it in the fridge and go to bed...lol icon_lol.gif Every time I've ever made red I always add more than I think it would need, incorporate it well and then just cover and stick in the fridge. No matter how pink it looks then, by the time I take it out to use it it's always super, super red! lol I've even had the problem of adding so much color that the icing was starting to 'break' because of so much red coloring...lol. Finally, I just started saving myself the worry and now I make any red icing 1-2 days before I need it....keeps me from adding too much color and always ends up a nice dark red. Sorry you had so much trouble & glad it turned out ok in the end for you!! icon_smile.gifthumbs_up.gif

I am glad it all worked out. That is wierd about Americolor super red. I have been using it and never have a problem getting a good red. I do not even have to let it sit.

I have also had good results getting red when I started with pink icing first. icon_smile.gif

The same goes for black. I know some people have complained they can't get their color really black. After a day of sitting, my red and black are always a good color. So if you have the time, make those a couple of days in advance.
