icon_confused.gif Well.....I emailed Cakevisions for a shipping estimate to my house and they said the sale was only for registered members who own a bakery!!!!! What the heck? I thought the whole point was that so people would try their product and buy it instead of the competitiors? Not a smart business practice. And, if that's the case their sale should specifically state that it is only available to bakeries. icon_mad.gifthumbsdown.gif

Actually kiddo, many places only deal with registered bakeries or registered business owners. Many only deal wholesale and to buy wholesale you have to have proof you own a registered or licensed business. Many businesses will only sell to registered bakers, people with their papers.
The thing is, well with dealing only with professional bakers, they aren't taking chances that the person buying the product may use it incorrectly. With dealing in wholesale only, registered or licensed businesses are getting a better price because they are buying in much larger volume so their price per unit is going to be lower because of that.
I know, it is disappointing, I have a hard time getting a lot of products too or getting a good price on them. But unfortunately in this business that is how it works.
Their site should state that though.

Oh I don't have a problem with them selling only to bakeries etc as I know many sites sell only to wholesale/bakeries. No biggie. BUT it should specifically state that the sale items are limited to bakery customers only. They said I could still purchase it from their site on-line but at full price.

Don't know if it makes it any better, but on the Caljava site the regular price is thirty dollars+ for 10 lbs. At Pfeil and Holing http://www.cakedeco.com it is only $24.95 per 10 lbs-- Not as good as the sale price, but better than the regular. I think the shipping is better from Pfeil and Holing also.... They are in New York and I am in San Jose and when I last purchased 30 lbs of Pettincie the shipping was about $20.00. (And there was more stuff in my order) And Pfeil and Holing doesn't ask if you are a retailer. You can buy wholesale there even if you are a hobbyist.

I agree kiddo and some of them that only sell wholesale or sell only to licensed bakeries etc should state this on their sites. It gets to be a bit disappointing, doesn't it?

I would just like to try Satin Ice or Petinence (sp). I got onto the Pfeil and Holing website and they said that I needed to make a minimum $50 purchase!! Satin fine Foods got back to me but I have to order a whole case!! I just want to try it out for goodness sake!!! Any ideas where I can get just 2-5lbs?

I think it just depends on who you speak with when you call about ordering the FondX at the sale price. when I called, the young girl asked me if I baked cakes and that was it. I don't own a bakery and it didn't seem to be a problem. Of course, I am still waiting on my order so I will see if it does in fact arrive.

steph95, I've worked with the Satin Ice and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! You can get a 2lb ($9.35) or 5lb ($19.29)tub of Satin Ice at www.sugarcraft.com. They have TONS of great stuff & ship super fast too! thumbs_up.gif

Edited to say* Just checked sugarcraft.com website & they have the Pentinice that you were looking for also. A bit less expensive than the Satin Ice.

Just an FYI for the folks worried about regrigeration. I recently contacted Satin Fine Foods regarding refrigeration cakes covered in Satin Ice. Here was their response:

"You can refrigerate the cake but you would have to cover it. Do not cover it tightly. You can also keep the cake in a cool room if you do not want to refrigerate. Just keep it covered."

I'm new to using fondant and was making a cake that needed to be refrigerated because of the fillings. I ended up using some fondant stripe accents but did not cover the whole cake this time. I did not notice any problems after refrigeration.

Steph95 - I've purchased Satin Ice from www.countrykitchensa.com and www.cakesbysam.com.

steph95- I'm not sure where in MD you are, but if you're close to DE there's a great cake supply store in Newark called Cannon's on Kirkwood Hwy. They carry Satin Ice and just about everything else you can think of.

O.K. everyone, I received my FondX order within a week of placing the order and I must say that I absolutely love it, love it, love it. I will post the cake later but the shipping for 20 lbs was actually about 17.80 (a big difference from the 32.00 I was originally told). This stuff is great and it tastes like marshmallow fondant. The sale ends today so I think I'll order a couple of buckets. Shelf life is 6-8 months. I'll refrigerate the cake tonight and let everyone know how it turns out.

A couple of notes on the previous page comments...

Virgin Ice... tastes okay (better than Wilton!), but it's kind of "spongy" in texture and tends to shrink back a bit more than I like after you roll it. I won't buy it again.

Mill Lane (from www.CreativeCutters.com) that Squirrelly mentioned is my hands-down favourite fondant. The taste is wonderful, the texture beautifully smooth and elastic-y (without that shrinkage factor.) The people at Creative Cutters are amazing to deal with! It can be refrigerated without a problem. Also, the chocolate is to die for! It's the most gorgeous dark chocolate colour and SO YUMMY!!!

Can anyone tell me who makes Fondx from the label? I'm from Toronto and can't seem to find it. If I knew who makes it in Canada I can probably find where to buy it here. Many thanks. Deb

FondX is made by CalJava. Caljava's headquartaears are in California, but I think the fondant is manufactured in Indiana.

Here's the website. You can try to call and ask you has it in Canada.

I guess I'm lucky because my local cake supply store has/sells Fondx. I bought a bucket of the regular flavor and LOVE IT! They make it in white chocolate, raspberry, and chocolate. I bought the bucket for $29.99.

The Fondx colors really well, and is very pliable. Tastes WONDERFUL! To me it tastes like buttercream. And the shelf life is 6 mos.

The only fondant I will buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one sells it yet that I know of here in WA. You can buy Pettinice and some of the colored Satin Ice from Dawn's Craft House in Lynnwood. She is super nice and carries luster dusts, Americolors gels, Elegant Lace molds and some gumpaste supplies. She is also willing to special order anything you need. I just talked to her last week about FondX and she is going to look in to getting some samples first and then might carry it. She also has classes at her store and holds the monthly Cake Club meeting at her shop!
