Hi, I'm new to Cake Central and love this place. I've been lurking for sometime and have found a lot of great ideas. I have been asked to make a cake for a co-worker that is moving to North Carolina. They want a cake with mountains and a cabin. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure where to start.

Thanks

Do they want a 3d cake or just a design on a sheet cake? I am not a creative person. I have to see something and then take it from there but... They do have a 3d House cake pan that you may be able to make into a cabin. You could creat the mountains by stacking cake and sculpting it. Have you done a search on the site yet? (I am sure the more talented folks here will help you some!

depending upon size needed...

mountains: wonder or mini-wonder pan....and can sculpt them even more.

cabin: can be a simple stack of cake made from pieces of sheet cake cut to size.

pretzels make great logs

trees: ice cream cones (see tutorial on CC)

and from the CC gallery -- here's a great example by CakeDiva

cabin in mountains

What about a cake shaped like the state, with the mountains on the western portions you could put pine trees (as Doug suggested) and a cabin (a smaller cake or fondant/gumpaste) and the coastal region on the eastern side? More detail to the western side where I'm assuming they'll be if it's mountainous?

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I have until the middle of March to figure this out, thank goodness. Everyone here is so great! I'm in the process of making my Grandaughter a princess cake for next weekend and have got a lot of great ideas from this site. I've spent many hours lurking here.

Thanks
