Tuesday, my friend told me that I talk about cakes to much, and she doesnt need to hear every detail about my cakes. She stated that 85% of our conversion is about cake...( I honestly disagree with that) . I mainly talk about my cakes, if i get something new or if someone said something really postive. icon_biggrin.gif . She does gift basket, I would never tell her that she talks about her basket to much (thats what her passion is). She also stated that after awhile enough is enough and Ido not need to talk about it as much...Of course that is her opinion.. Have anyone else been thru this?

I tend to drive my husband crazy with it too! But he is nice enought to go "ohh yes, ok, yes hun" and such. I am always telling him about the new things I have learned/tried or all the "projects" I want to do. I am lucky that he "listens", LOL=) Jen

I know that most people who don't do what I do, prefer not to hear about it all the time. If they ask, I give them just the highlights, and ask about them.

If all I want to talk about is cake, I come here icon_smile.gif

When my DH tries to talk astronomy with me...I like it for 5 minutes but because I am not interested in a big way, I can't really understand why he wants to tell me about M95 in detail icon_eek.gif ....so I understand when I am talking cakes non-stop to someone who might not be as passionate about them as me... all I can say is thank goodness for "cake" friends and CC!

My husband does not want to hear me talk about cakes either...........matter of fact he just complained that I do cakes every nite (not true, just one a week, maybe) and he is tired of hearing the mixer for either cakes or icing. Can you tell I get no encouragement here icon_mad.gif Then I get the line, "this is not a business you know" (I sell to co-workers) He is just PO'd because the cake is not for him - truthfully he is looking 400 lbs in the eye and does not need cake! icon_razz.gif

My hubby thinks the same thing. I have found that everyone does not have the same excitement and amazement about the artistic abilities that goes into decorating cakes. I just read more cake books and chat here.

I just heard that from a friend of mine a couple of days ago. And she started ranting about how I get so wrapped up in my hobbies, how I have more hobbies than anyone else she knows (I do scrapbooking, photography, and now I'm getting into making cakes), how she thinks it's ridiculous that I get so wrapped up in the things I do. Grrr. It REALLY hurt my feelings! I know that not everyone wants to hear every detail of cake making, but guess what--if this is what is important to us, and we're supposedly important to you, at least get excited about us being excited!!!
I feel much better now that I've vented a little! LOL

Last night I was talking with my DH and I said "There was this person on CC who made these amazing flowers out of gumpaste- the stuff I made the daisies out of...?" I looked over at him and he is looking at me like I am absolutely CRAZY. "what?" I say and he says---- "I know what gumpaste is! You have used that exact description at least 5 times to describe gumpaste!"

I just made those daisies on Friday (4 days!!) OOPS- Poor DH!

What is it with us? All I want to talk about is cake! My husband listens and has actually learned a lot. I am grateful he is willing to hear it, although I do know not to overdo it. The rest of my family thinks I'm obsessed....I am! icon_biggrin.gif

Maybe this should be called CA (Cakes Anonymous) instead of CC!

My "EX" was a race car driver..... He had a carburator for a brain, a fuel cell for a heart, and we won't even talk about grear shifts ....... in other words , when all you can talk about is one subject, everything goes stale.... weather it be a friendship. or a marriage....... don't become an "EX"........ icon_wink.gif

I have finally found a hobby that I can really get into. My dh is supportive and listens as much as he can, my friends have taken to tuning me out. I can tell that they stop listening when I start about cake, or flowers. Which is sad because I can listen to them talk about anything and even ask a question or 2. icon_cry.gif

Hey me too! My husband complains every time I do a cake. He can't believe I can just sit there and concentrate only on that and what's the big deal if it's not perfect. The mixer is getting on his last nerve and on and on. Everytime I swear I'll not do another cake here. I do 1 to 2 cakes a week and he is a royal pain about it. I need some 100 mile an hour Duct Tape for his mouth, but that would probably lead to some sign language! LOL.

I think my husband actually talks about cake as much or more than I do! He even gets on CC once in a while and will look at all the cakes and read all the posts. He is always telling everyone that I do cakes now and anyone that eats one of them.....he is always wanting to know how it tasted and what they thought of the flowers....was it pretty....etc. It's kinda funny. Everyone else that doesn't like that we talk so much about cakes is probably just a little jealous that we have something we love so much!

How about taking this one in another direction. I was at a luncheon at a cake decorator's function, holding a conversation about the Vietnam War, and was verbally rebuked by a person who thought they should be the center of attention, because I Wasn't talking about cake. This was a private conversation between two people at the table, and it was not my fault that the others at the table found my conversation to be more interesting than her yakking on about how she baked her hummingbird cake!

This was my moment when I KNEW....

My kids and I were watching Little Mermaid--at the end when the octopus/witch runs back down the ship and ruins the wedding cake--

I said--not thinking--"Oh Man--All that work! Poor cake!"

That is when I knew I had cake on the brain. My 10yo said mom--It is just cartoon, not a real cake"

I am the same way with my DH. He used to be an online poker player before they banned it and he would come running into the roomto tell me about this hand and that hand and he did this and on and on..... I couldn't take it! Now I am on CC all the time and he reminds me of the times when I complained about him playing poker. icon_redface.gif So now when he wants to talk to me about football I just say uh huh, yep, ok......and it works out.

With friends I make it a point not to bring up the subject unless they ask and then I am quick and to the point. I know before I had a child it used to bother me people would constantly talk about their children. I didn't really need a rundown of their kids afternoon but, ok. I had no clue or interest. So I use that example when talking to others about cake. If you don't have an interest it can be annoying.

I come here to get my fix. icon_rolleyes.gif

I guess I am really lucky. I have a wonderful husband that doesn't mind me talk to him about cakes or anything that I want to talk about. He actually ask questions and when I am making a cake he loves to watch and there have been times he will sneak up on me a take a picture of me making a cake. (I hate my picture being takin but for him anything) I am also lucky in the fact that other than my husband my mom is my best friend and guess what...icon_razz.gif she bakes cakes also! Life is GOOD!

Well, my husband doesn't talk to me at all so I don't worry about him hearing about cake too much; but my poor coworkers, well, they probably get sick of it. However, I doubt they will be saying anything anytime soon since they really enjoy my cakes and I have been making the birthday cakes. icon_razz.gif

Nobody has told me that, but I feel like I might sometimes! I try not to talk about it so much unless someone asks! I try to talk about things the other person enjoys so that if I talk about cakes it doesnt seem like we are talking just about my passion. I find myself lighting up though when the subject is brough up.
