I was wondering how long this stuff lasts. I have had some colors for quite a long time and was wondering how long this stuff lasts and does it go bad? None of them have any bad smells though.

I am talking about Wilton stuff that comes in a small little bottle and it is the gel kinda color.

Sometimes it can be brought back by using some glycerin to make it plyable again but if not I would toss them.I also find if any...just a touch even of BC gets near the wilton gels they start to harden.

I think the answer is FOREVER. I know I,ve had some so long they dried a little, bought some glycerine from the drug store, added a few drops... good as new.

My MIL started to decorate cakes then lost interest...like 5 years ago. She just gave me her 'old' colors. Some are unopened and some are opened. They are all odorless and work great. Maybe they never do go bad?

I have been wondering about actually freezing some of them. Somebody's order from CC froze, and Colorboy (Americolor rep) said it would not hurt them at all, so maybe it would be okay to keep some in the freezer, especially if you have extra bottles on hand.

Although, if they keep that long, freezing may not even be necessary... Janice

I had ordered a cake decorating caddy set from ebay and when I received it all of the gel colors were very stiff---they definately weren't gel anymore. The seller said it was new, but who knows. I added a touch of glycerin to them and they work fine and the icing tastes the same!!
