but can you take Wilton candy melts (the yellow, pink, and blue ones), melt them down, let them cool a bit, and then shave/curl them like you can with chocolate? Has anyone tried this?
Do you think it would look cute on a baby shower cake? I want to do something unique. icon_rolleyes.gif I have a general idea for my cake, but thought if I could shave large curles of color on the cake it would really stand out as unique. Honestly I'm not even sure what the candy melts are made of. Anyone know?

It would certainly work. Let it cool completely in a block or whatever. If you have some small foil pans or whatever, you can make a "mold" that way.

No, the melts aren't "real" chocolate, but most people who don't work with them dont' know that.

It's a good idea you had there.

I haven't done that, but seems like it should work.

I've seen this done. I think it was in a Woman's Day or Family Circle magazine a few years ago. They did red, white and blue and it was a 4th of July cake. They melted the candy melts, then used the plastic container that the Crisco Sticks come in as the block mold. I'm sure you could use a small loaf pan as well.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate the info. : ) I think I will give it a try!
Last night I finally made it to the Hobby Lobby 50% off sale, 15 minutes before the store closed and bought Make a Mold brand (i think that's right) as that's what they had. I already had some Wilton candy melts in the cabinet. I'll play around with this idea and try and fit it into my cake design. : )
If I like it I'll post it! Shower isn't until Sunday. : )

No kidding, I did not know they weren't 'real' chocolate... I did think they tasted kind of funky. Not bad.. just different.
