Yippee!!! I just had my very first customer pick up her cakes and she absolutely LOVED them!! I am so exstatic! I felt weird when it came to the money part because it was so much but I did work very hard on the cakes. I'll have to get over it LOL I'm hoping that through word of mouth that I can get more orders
Here are her cakes... They look much better in person than they do in these pictures.

Your cakes are absolutely gourgeous!!
I'd love to know the recipe you used for the chocolate frosting. Looks so dark and rich! mine is good, but yours looks incredible.
You're going to do a great business. Do a few more like this and your phone won't stop ringing!

Thank you! The icing is called Bittersweet Chocolate Frosting. It tastes great!!! Especially with the Chocolate Layer Cake Recipe that is also on CC.
Here is the link to the icing recipe

Thanks! I'm going to save this recipe for sure! It looks very rich... I'd like to dive right in!
Your cakes look really beautiful. I believe I ready your thread earlier where you posted the recipe. I believe you also specified not to use dutch processed cocoa. If this is so, what brand can I use? would hershey be an option?

Yeah I use Hershey's
Congrats! I thought you had already sold several cakes so I was surprised to see your post.
Great work!

Great work!
Thank you Nope this was my very first sale. I've only been decorating cakes for almost 2 months now. So I've just been learning. But now I hope to sell a few more. We'll see how it goes. Not getting my hopes up or anything.

I can't believe those were your first sold cakes! You look like a pro! Congratulations!
Susan,
I told you to stop making those yummy looking chocolate cakes...keep my mouth watering for a big slice
Congratulations on your first paid cakes; you did a fantastic job
How did you do your leaves on the side.
Wow, Susan, those are wonderful!!! They look so deliciously sinful!
Are the drop flowers royal or butercream? They are perfect! I have yet to make a decent drop flower!
Congratulations, you will see, this was the first of many orders to come!
Congratulations! I know the feeling for the first cake and the money thing is awkward at first. But it will get easier and you will feel more confident. You'll see as you get business by referrals, they already know what to expect in taste and cost!
Best of luck to you and can't wait to see more pictures of beautiful cakes!

This is your signature cake, in my book...It's so rich and dark....It reminds me of that cake in the movie "Matilda" with Danny Devito...
How much did you charge for them, if you don't mind me asking...It is a lot of work to decorate all that...
Thanks
How did you do your leaves on the side.
Some of the leaves are made with the frosting and the others are Royal Icing painted with Mahogany Luster Dust
Are the drop flowers royal or butercream?
The Drop Flowers are Royal Icing. I make them on wax paper and then let them dry before placing them on the cake
How much did you charge for them, if you don't mind me asking...It is a lot of work to decorate all that...

I felt very awkward when it came to the price. I know that an awful lot of work went in to these cakes and I probably should have charged more but since they were my very first paid cakes and since I am such a newbie and still learning, I charged her $30.00 a cake.
Thank you everyone for all your kind words. They do not go unappreciated. It is because of all of you that I can even decorate a cake

Those look great Susan!!!!
I've been "selling" cakes for people at work, and I need to learn how to better price them. Someone paid me $12 for a 9' round 2 layer cake today. I didn't have the heart to tell her it should be more, especially since I got such a deal on the mixes. I can't imagine anyone at work paying me $30! They're all like "how much?" and I just stand there staring at them. I have the pricing guide, I just need to figure it out.

You should definitely be charging more than $12.00. You put a lot of time and hard work in your cakes. Wal*Mart charges more than that and it's not any wheres near as good! Don't sell yourself short. You're worth more than that

Congratulations! They Look wonderful! (and yummy!)
I'm sure this will open the door for many many more orders!
