I'm thinking of doing my first color flow for a friend's baby shower cake and I've been looking through the gallery to get some inspiration. I've seen people use "Color Flow" and "Royal Icing Flow". What is the difference between these two? (if there is one!)
Thanks!
I find there is really no difference.I think it was just Wiltons own way of putting out a product to do the same thing as royal icing.I do find the colorflow mix is a bit runnier.I just use plain old Royal icing and thin it down!
Colorflow will breakdown when placed directly on cake. You have to use sugar cubes, marshmallows, etc. to separate the color flow from the icing. You can wait until almost time to use the cake and then place on.
Royal can be placed directly on the cake.
Color flow and Meringue Powder (used to make royal icing) are both egg white products. The difference is the things added in iwth it.
It is said that color flow will dry shiny and be a stronger piece than royal icing. Royal icing dries naturally with a matte finish, though I have read on here drying it under a lamp will give it a shiny finish.
I don't think either one will break down in a matter of minutes on a cake. You do want to keep both away from moisture, so you don't want to put them on a cake and put them in the fridge.
I was planning on covering a cake base with colorflow. the cake will be sitting out it for two days before it is eaten. Will this work? Also, I was planning on making a colorflow of a football field to put on a buttercream iced cake. It will sit out overnight also. Will this work?
