Will adding corn syrup to royal icing change the way the royal icing hardens? I'm doing string work/bridge work for an upcoming cake show and I'm practicing it like mad!!!!!!! icon_confused.gificon_confused.gificon_confused.gificon_twisted.gificon_twisted.gificon_twisted.gificon_razz.gif

Will the royal icing strings appear smoother and harden the same as without it? What is the ratio of corn syrup to royal? Is it 1 T per C of royal?

cakemommy,
Where is the cake show? I am in Centralia, and would like to see one live.

I have added corn syrup to royal. I make stiff royal and use the corn syrup to thin down. so the ratio would be the same as thinning icing. The icing hardens the same but will have a little sticky touch to it. I found it make the icing more flexible.

I'll have to add the corn syrup them because my strings are just so brittle in appearance. I need more "elasticity" as you say. That's the perfect description for what I'm searching for. I'll give it a try then.

Perfect, thank you very much!

The cake show I am going to is in San Diego. My sister lives down there and she and I enter every march. There is however, a cake show the end of April at Factoria Square Mall in Bellevue. I'll see if I can find the link to it and PM you with it if you would like! I'm thinking about going. It's a long trek for you though.

Here is the link to a discussion in the forums about the show.

It would be great if you could go even though it is a drive for you!!! icon_razz.gif
