itsacake, most of the supply stores I go to are basically people who do cakes in "the back" and sell supplies in the front.

I know of some people that do cakes as well as sell supplies (cake boards, boxes, dummies, etc) to supplement their cake income.

I teach at a small store that has cake supplies along with party goods. She sells Wilton pans, all types of cookie cutters, books, balloons, candy making supplies, fillings Wedding toppers, boxes, and party goods. Are thinking of opening a store like this?

kaecakes,

I hadn't really thought about the party goods, but yes, that might be exactly what it would take to make the kind of shop I am thinking about viable. Where are you and do you think the shop owner might be willing to e-mail or talk with me about expenses and business plans and such? The rents here are so high that I'm very unsure I could make a shop work, but I can't get the idea out of my head.

I have a candy and cake supply store. I also do custom cakes, pastries and sugar art or anything that I know how for that matter. I have an interesting store because there isn't much else like it for at least 150 miles north or south of me. I used to frequent the store which has been in business for 25 years and recently purchased it but have added the bakery portion to it because I love doing cakes. I will also be offering classes because that's what customers ask for.

I am in upstate NY in a small town with the only dept. store being Wal mart. The new owner has had the store 5 yrs. The previous owner I want to say close to 25 yrs. I would think Elaine would talk to you. She is a very sweet person. Let me call her and I will get back to you. Billie

PSL cakelady, where in PSL is your shop located? My parents (snowbirds) have a house down there and we visit a few times a year. No cake supply stores w/in two hours of where I live in NY!

Kaecakes: where in upstate NY are you? I wouldn't mind shopping at that store.

My store is on U.S. One in Port St. Lucie. It's been here for 25 years but I just took over last October.
