Sam's club cupcakes are massed produced and brought into their place by the case frozen....so they can sell them cheaper..I worked for them at one time. If you are baking them fresh...decorating them and delivering them and setting them up you can charge up to $1.00 per cupcake.

there was a post on here in one of the forums where people were quoting $0.50-0.75 per cupcake. Maybe do a search on the topic and see what others are charging. Just remember that if you go into detailed work, you must charge more for your time.

I have charged at least $1.00/ea....depending on how much work I am doing. I don't think $40 was too much at all with you delivering and setting them up! Gas isn't cheap...not to mention your own precious time!!!! It can be so frustrating!!!!

It's really very difficult, especially if you live in a smaller town and/or if you have been the "good friend" that everyone just expects to bake or cook for them for free or dirt cheap. I live in a small town, and when I quote them prices, most think I charge too much. I made cupcakes just recently for a baby shower, and the trays were beautiful. I had one large tray with 2 dozen regular size cupcakes decorated in pink and white (they knew she was having a girl); in the center, I placed a half a stryofoam ball (6 inches that I had cut in half and covered with plastic wrap), then I took mini-cupcakes that were decorated in pink and white, stuck a toothpick in the bottom each and completely covered the styrofoam. I took pink and white curling ribbon and placed on t-pins and covered the few small places where the cupcakes didn't quite all come together. It looked like a beautiful pink and white pompon. For the other, smaller tray, I used a crusting buttercream tinted pinkish flesh color and smoothed it, then used the "grass" tip to pipe on "hair". I added frosting hair bows, noses, and lips, and fondant eyes (rolled out white and cut out and then added smaller circles of blue, green, brown for irises, with a toothpick dipped in black food coloring for pupils). I also added the small plastic bottles, rattles, or binkies. It was just adorable! I charged $1.00 a cupcake and threw in as a nice freebie the mini-cupcakes (I think it took 10-12 to cover the styrofoam ball), and she thought I was charging too much. Go figure! You'll probably never be appreciated by your friends or acquaintances for a price that is fair to you, and I certainly understand wanting to get your name and work out to the public. Keep up the good work, and TRY not to sell yourself short. YOU DESERVE A GOOD PRICE!

If people think cupcakes are so easy, why don't they just do them theirselves? I live in a small area and just getting my name out, so I charged $0.50/ea when a cake was ordered with it. I used the same colors as in the cake, and it took me all of 30 minutes to decorate them, if that. Once my name is in the decorator ring and if there is alot of work going into them, I'll go up. If you put alot of work into them, make sure you charge what you're worth, because YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!

I was just wondering the same thing. I have someone who wants 60 cupcakes plus a small individual for the birthday boy.
I am going to charge her .75 for plain iced with sprinkles and $1 if she wants more decor. Of course the price for the cake will be additional.

i'm doing a wedding cupcake tree for 50 and am charging $70, which is dirt cheap too... the tree holds 38 and i am making individual roses from molding choclate plus leaves plus piping plus chocolate monographms for the cupcakes that will be on the table around the tree AND the cupcakes will be filled.. sometimes the cupcakes take more time to complete than a full cake.. delivery is more difficult and set up takes a bit longer sometimes.. starting out i dont mind putting the extras and not charging.. trying to create more business.. but dont undersell yourself, even though we all do it!

I under priced my Spongebob cupcakes and small cake...first time doing them. I charged her $27.00 for 30 plus the little cake for the b-day girl.

Learned my lesson...will charge more if I have to do them again thumbs_up.gif
