Okay, I got a phone call today for a baby shower cake for about 15 people. The baby will be a girl and the woman already has 2 girls (not sure if this is important, but she told me anyway). It's to be iced in buttercream.

Help, please. She didn't really have anything else. I asked her for a shower theme and she said they didn't tell her anything, just bring the cake!

I thought about maybe using the petal pans, but maybe not. I'm really having problems figuring something out that is super cute, that really can't be that big. We have a bridal show next Sat. so my creativity is all tied up right now!

TIA,
Suz

Have you searched for the word "baby" in the galleries, or looked under the baby shower category? There are tons of cute and fast cakes, my favorite is the one that has two 9" circles made to look like the head and body of a baby with a diaper on. Good luck, can't wait to see what you decide to do.

I made a baby shower cake a few years back which was my favorite and sadly I dont have a picture anymore.. I made a 1/4-1/2 sheet cake and frosted it but the made the bottom like an ocean then a beach with pink beach towels. I made and piped little babies in daipers then used little pink umbrellas behind them and laid rattles and little plastic toys all around what ever I found it turned out cute and was very different.. It was a BIG hit as well. If all else fails Baby block are always good.. and very easy to make.. Good Luck... Hope you have better luck than I am gonna have trying to come up with an idea for a western baby shower cake...lol Ok wish us both LUCK!

I made a tiered cake with baby booties on it. They weren't the hard fondant ones, just made out of iced cupcakes. You could just do a small round cake with booties on top, that would be cute. Or you could try making one of the fondant babies. Or, flowers are always a hit. Pink roses with basketweave. I love babyshower cakes, I've done three as gifts. They are so much fun. Good luck!

How about a baby block cake. I think they are so adorable & you could just make one big one to feed 15 people.
There are tons of cute ones in the gallery & I've attached a picture of one of my favorites:

OKay, need help again.

I emailed her with a couple of questions. I asked her if the mom to be was all "pinked" out (it's her 3rd girl) and a couple of other things. She said no pink- the baby's room is a periwinkle, sage and light yellow color and can we use those. Something elegant. So I'm at a loss once again because I've looked and looked and can't find anything. I was going to do something along the lines of the following picture (not mine, can't remember whose it is though). It's cute, not elegant. My brain is fried!!! I can't think of anything. If it were for more people and I could make a larger cake, I think I'd be fine.

Any more suggestions?
Thanks,
Suz

Can you get a copy of the invitation? I did a cake for a baby shower this weekend, the invitation, plates, napkins all matched, had an antique baby carriage on them. I did the cake background in sage fondant (same as the invitation) and then cut out a carriage in fondant that matched the invitations. If you don't want to use fondant you could always use buttercream.

I think these umbrella cakes are elegant. It could easily be adapted for a baby shower and you could do it in the colors she asked for. Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

I would do a 2 tier square or round with a pretty bow on top. You could find something to go with those colors. Hobby Lobby will make really pretty bows for about 2.00.

Here is one I did a week ago. The light is terrible in the photo. The cake was really cute. For your cake...I would probably use a silk bow to make it look more elegant! icon_smile.gif

Am I old fashioned in thinking it is odd that someone is having a baby shower for their 3rd child? Okay, beside the point, I know. As far as ideas, I found this one in the gallery, done by Christy_B. It is elegant, simple, and if you just did an 8" and 6" (or even 4") you'd have just enough for a little left over for the daddy-to-be, since they rarely get to come to the shower. icon_smile.gif I just love this cake!

I think that the new school of thought on this is that it's okay if they children aren't too close in age, or if it's a different sex. But I digress.

That's a very pretty cake- they all are! I emailed the pic that I attached here to the customer, and she loves it, so that's what we'll do. Thanks for all the help.
