I've only done it once, but I charged about the same as a serving of cake... but every cupcake was decorated with either fondant or piped buttercream flowers.
That makes sense! My first thought was OMG! $1.25/cupcake sounds like a lot, but if you factor in decorating every individual cupcake, yeah I can see $1.25 @.
Thanks for the info! I haven't had one of these requested as of yet, but it's better to have an idea of what to charge than to be caught off guard and underbid yourself!
Also, when you have a request for cupcakes as a wedding cake, how do you typically display them?
I have the tall tier stand and have thought about using it in such a case. But I was wondering is it too tall a spacing between the layers for cupcakes?
I have the tall tier stand and I have used it for cupcakes. I agree that it is a little too much space between tiers for cupcakes. It works fine but I don't think it is the ideal thing for a wedding. I just used it for a company party and it was fine.
what about for birthdays? Cupcakes in the grocery stores run about 50 cents each.
I'm not sure I could get $1.25 a cupcake, but then again if they don't want to pay for home baked goods they can go to wally world!
tmassey5: I'm with you, I'm not sure I could get $1.25/cupcake...especially not for birthdays!
I have just started doing Cupcake cakes for a few clients, and I am trying to work out a price that is fair both to me and to my customers. So far I am charging 75 cents/cupcake for less than 24ct. and 65 cents/cupcake for 24ct. or more. Keep in mind these are NOT individual cupcakes, they are part of a larger "cake". Also, I charge extra for any drawing, BCT or edible images I might add, this is just my base price. No one even bats an eyelash at the prices.
I think that for individually decorated cupcakes (such as those for a wedding) the $1.25/cupcake is reasonable. That's a lot of work to decorate each cupcake!
