I just wanted to thank everyone on this site for the inspiration and tips. I have not done many cakes or taken any classes yet but I have learned so much from this site. I tried my first frozen buttercream transfer last night. I had never even heard of them before I got onto this site. They are so great! I spent hours filling in a spiderman cake with a star tip last year for my son's birthday. It would have been so much faster doing a transfer! Here is a picture of my cake with my transfer on it. I think that I picked a picture with too much detail for my first one. I guess I will get better with practice. I did have a question though. How thick do you make the transfer. I had heard about them breaking so I think I made mine too thick so that it wouldn't break. When I put it on the cake it had a raised effect. Also how do most of you finish the edges? I didn't want another outline around my picture so I just tried to smooth the edges into the cake with my finger and cornstarch. I would appreciate any tips, suggestions, or critcism. I really want to learn and get better. Thakns

The FBCT came out great! I have the same problem with the raised effect, I've seen a lot of cakes with borders around the transfer. I just love your border...what tip did you use?
Thanks! I used the grass tip and I put white and blue icing in the bag and kinda mixed them upto get the two-toned look.
I wonder if maybe just putting a thin coating of frosting on your cake then your transfer.......then going around the transfer and build up the rest of the frosting to the height of your bct would work??? Seems like it would.......I just recently made my first transfer too and haven't actually put it on a cake yet.....but that was what I was planning to do in order to keep it the same level.

What I've done before which can be tricky on a larger cake is to outline the entire size of your pan, put your transfer where you want and outline and fill the picture in. Freeze that for about 15 mins or so then go back and fill in with your base icing color. This way the whole transfer is the size of your cake. Freeze this again and then the tricky part is to get it turned over onto your cake. If you freeze this real good and work fast it's not that hard, however, I've never tried it on a huge cake! Then all you have to do is smooth the edges of the cake! I actually let mine come to room temp and soften up then smooth the edges with a small spatula or viva.
This method seems easier to me than trying to fill in the extra icing around the image already on the cake!

I live in northern Kentucky in Crittenden. It's great to find another UK fan. My husband and boys are completely crazy fans. Have to watch every game and are in a bad mood whenever they don't win. Hope they do well this year or I am in for a lot of grumpy guys.
