Which mixer do ya'll use..I'm gonna bet the kitchenaid but there are a couple of others. I just wondered which you all preferred. I noticed there are 2 of the kitchenaids now one is 10 sp and the other doesnt say....any difference?

I do not have one yet....do you know how hard it is to mix your frosting 10 min without one!!! I also had the worst time with the no fail without one.......Thanks so much for your opinions!

I'm all for Kitchenaid. I've never had any problems with this brand and totally believe it's a good product.
Thought you might be interested in this link for Kitchenaid forum... they have a lot of discussion about the various Kitchenaid models and features and occasionally have contests. : )

I am using the kithen aid my gramma used. I asked my mom the other day when she thought gramma bought it and my mom said when we bought our property...so thats been 25 + years ago! Its a 10 speed with a stainless bowl and 5 attachments. The thing works just great. I made MMF with it for the first time a couple weeks ago and it even mixed that stuff up well! I even have the hand mixer my gramma bought new back in the 60's. I still use that as well. icon_wink.gif

I've had a kitchenaid mixer since 1988 and it still works like a dream.

I have a kitchen aid got it for my b-day last year. Use it all the time. I liked the idea of one because I liked the big daddy Hobarts which is basically a ka on steroids. So I wanted a "little" hobie of my own.

twinsline, I don't think the color is what's causing the price difference. Kitchenaid makes a few different models... http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/category.jsp?categoryId=310

I use a sumbeam Stand Mixer, and it works very well. I really only use it for Icing, so I guess it's all I need. (I want a KA, but guess I'll have to wait til the sumbeam wears out!)

I don't think I could bake a day without my KA. The cost is worth it. After you burn up several small mixers especially. I've never heard anyone say they were sorry they bought a KA. I bought mine about 15 years ago and it still looks and works like a new one.

I'm still agonizing over which one to buy....I know sounds silly!! Thanks Sherry I wondered about the sunbeam......I've had my heart set on the KA...even if its just the classic version...I'm just starting the whole cake thing so I'm debating if I should start with something like the sunbeam and then grow or the KA.........

The sunbeam has more power it says....so I dont understand why its cheaper......I like that the sunbeam has a second bowl but not that it only has beaters and hooks........I like the ka attachments..

sherry does the sunbeam have any additional attachments?? Does anyone have the ka classic?

Well, My sunbeam (heritage series, Mixmaster 450 watt) came with
Flat beaters
Wire whisks &
Dough hooks
Mine also came with the 2 stainless steel bowls
I know they have a cheaper model that comes with glass bowls and only has the beaters & hooks.

I haven't looked for any other accessories, because As I said, I mainly use it for icing. I paid $119 for mine, but it was on sale at Kohls for Christmas. I think they are regularly around 149.00.

I love it, and it works really well for my needs.

I had a great Sunbeam stand mixer. I kept reading about how great the KA was. So - my DH got me one for Christmas (stainless steel bowl with 3 attachments - he paid $189 + tax). I have not been able to adjust to making buttercream icing it in yet!!!! I complain every time I use it! With my Sunbeam (has 2 glass bowls and only 2 regular beaters) I had no problems adding ingredients to the bowl while it was mixing. With the KA there is not as much room (it is much deeper). And every time I use it I make a mess with the conf. sugar(didn't do that with the Sunbeam)!!! Also - with the Sunbeam I could scrap the sides of the bowl while mixer was going... with the KA I have to turn it off and scrape sides/attachment! My Sunbeam was great - but I have used it for many years and when making icing - it was starting to have a burning smell - so I knew the motor was going to go out soon! I think the KA will be great too..... I just have to learn to use it! Either one you get should work fine!! Thanks! Ann

I used to have K.A. envy, with everyone in my family that had one but didn't use them (at all in some cases). I'd pester them to let me take it home and use it like it begged to be used. No luck.

I didn't have money to buy the K.A. I wanted, so instead of saving, I'd spend $20 on a cheap cheap cheap hand mixer. I almost spent $50 on a cheap stand up mixer one day, until I was told by the person I was with, that "Santa" was bringing me on for X-mas!

I wouldn't give it up for anything and I use it so much, I probably make up for all my family that doesn't use theirs.

Everyone has their own "expert" opinion on what's best, but I think whatever you like, is what is the best to you.

Cakesbyann, someone gave me the hint to put a damp dishtowel over the KA when you add the powdered sugar. I was having a regular snowstorm every time I made frosting! I think once you get used to your KA, you will love it.

I absolutely love my KA. I got lucky and someone was selling theirs at a garage sale for $15. I couldn't pay the woman fast enough. I can't imagine making things without it now.

I was SO lucky! She said she never used it and it was just taking up space. I can't imagine not using it. I guess to each their own!

thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif I love my KA!! I got it 5 years a ago and it still works great. My mixer came with two SS bowls and the 3 attachments. I love it. It is well worth the money. I am not sure about the sunbeam. I had the older sunbeam with the glass bowls--it was like $50 and I hated it. You had to turn the bowl yourself. But the newer ones sure look nice. I know my Walmart sells KA mixers for like $149. If you knew someone that worked there have them buy it for you and they would get there associate's discount(10%). As for the color--its not any higher unless you are buying the pink one for the pink race for a cure and of course some of that money is donated. Mine is stainless. I got it through JcPenney when I had a coupon for a % off. I hope this helps!! Good luck!! icon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gif

If you are any kind of friend, you won't ask anyone to use their 10% discount at Walmart. That will cause them to lose their job if anyone found out. The amount saved wouldn't be worth that and it puts your friend in an awkward position when you ask them to do it.

I am so sorry if you misunderstood me. If they had a friend who worked at Walmart the friend could buy it (who worked at Walmart). I am not saying for one to use their discount--that would never work. I would never get one fired from their job, I am not that kind of person!

I love my KA too!! I've had mine for 2 years and use it all the time. I've never had any problems with it. Mine is the small one that comes with the 4.5 qt bowl (with no handle). I've bought an extra bowl with handle and an extra paddle and wouldn't EVER go without! SO much faster when doing cakes and icing and everything else that goes along with it! Anyway, I generally mix up 2 batches of icing at a time with no problems at all. I haven't tried fondant yet. I would say, check out your budget. Your KA is going to last FOREVER!! Buy the biggest one you can afford. Mine was a Christmas gift (fit my budget wonderfully!) My mom got mine at Kohls around Christmas time. They had it on sale, then she also opened a charge to get the additional % off. I think she ended up paying $150 for them (she got herself one at the same time!). I'd love to have one with the lift. Maybe when the kids get married, one of them will get it and then I can buy the bigger one!!

I took Wilton classes this past fall and burned up THREE hand mixers. I finally took the plunge and bought the Kitchen Aid Artisan...in cranberry, which is actually HOT PINK!!! I love the thing. It works SO well for SO many things, and the color makes me smile everytime I use it! I did see the white or red ones on sale before I bought mine, but I did pay the extra for the pink, and I'm glad I did! If it's going to last you forever, get the one you want, and realize that you're saving yourself hundreds in hand mixers and tons of time! Splurge! You're worth it! icon_wink.gif

I LOVE my Kitchenaid!!! I was being sarcastic (and hopeful when I added it to my wedding registry 2 years ago). I opened the box and SCREAMED I was so shocked I actually got it. I think I ran around the house for like 10 minutes. That's love.
