Freezing Cake & Simple Syrup

I have to make a large cake for an event on a Tuesday nite in a few weeks. I work full time and would like to get a head start on the baking this weekend. The recipe calls for a simple syrup. I'm not sure to freeze with or without the syrup?

freeze first... add the syrup after! (but it should be mostly thawed)
