hi everyone!
i just bought some styrofoam dummies and was wondering among you who use them, do i need to cover them with saran, or some sort of coating first, or just start slathering them with icing? styrofoam seems like it would just wipe & wash off easily, but wanted to ask before i dove in. TIA!

don't forget after wrapping the dummy to poke/cut any air pockets that might have got stuck inbetween the wrap and dummy. They can wreck havoc with your icing-they show through and move around when trying to smooth (trust me, i learned the hard way)

I didn't know you wrapped the dummies before using them. How do you get the icing to stick to the saran wrap? Wouldn't the icing just slide off?
You would think it would, but when i ice them I use the icer tip. It gets a good amount of frosting on the wrap. Then just smooth it out. I was sceptical at first also, but amazingly I didn't have that much of a problem. And boy was clean up easy!! Open up the garbage can and unwrap
Everything I had read previously just stated to ice as is, then soak and wash the icing off. Has worked numerous times for me without fail. However, if I use one for a wedding cake, I use a new dummy, then relegate it to my practice dummies after the wedding.
I recently made dummy cakes. I guess you learn as you go. I covered mine with lightweight spackling. i used royal icing to make the decorations. My hubby came up with the idea to spray a clear seal on them (I only did one) to see how it would turn out. I didn't like it it turned a little ivory color. I think It would have been better if It was a little warmer outside. The spackling was really easy to work with once I added water to it and poured it on. hope this helps a little. If anyone has other ideas let me know.
