A customer wants to suprise her husband by telling him she's pregnant by way of cake. They are going to dinner and when he opens the cake box, he'll find out. I need some ideas, because I really want this to be cute......

Here are the specs:

She wants buttercream, but I can add fondant or gumpaste accents (I've been dying to try gumpaste booties, and I have bought some of that Wilton premade gumpaste..........lol)

It is going to be an 8" round

The sex is unknown, so it has to be for a boy or a girl

That's about it, I appreciate anyone who reads or posts!!

How about a small bassinette with blanket and a few little things in it? Like rattles, bottles.

I like the idea of a cake with a pair of gumpaste booties on top.

Or maybe a cake with a cinnamon bun on top with the phrase "we've got a bun in the oven".

Or with basketweave make it look like a baby carriage with a baby in it (one of Wilton's Course books has this cake in it).

First just think of all the things babies need and use such as bottles, pacifiers, bibs, rocking horse, blocks, rattles. Maybe do a few of these out of your gumpaste and make a collection on top of the cake. Shaping the cake like booties would be very cute. I'll keep thinking. What a fun way to announce.

I know it is not to original but how about a stork delivering a bundle w/due date printed on diaper. With little bootie, bottle, diaper pins ect...for accents around the bottom of cake.

Or how about a FBCT of a "Baby on Board" car sign?

ok....I've only thought for a minute or two....AND since I happen to have belly cake on the brain, one idea is to do a little version of a belly cake (either as the cake or a mini version on top of the round cake. Before she opens the cake box.... she can say that she loves eating cake but it really effects her figure. After she opens Or he opens the box, she can say something like "but not as much as pregnancy WILL."

Just one thought.

You could make a blanket on top of the cake using a basketweave and a small round tip for fringe and put the booties on top of the blankie.

You could say:

Pink or blue
we'll know soon" or the simple

"Congratulations Daddy"

I like the idea of announcing the "DADDY" part....... make it about HIM instead of the baby.......

I am thinking of a home pregnancy test stick with a plus sign on it...not sure what to do with that, but maybe make it out of gumpaste, too, to add to your pile?

I really like the bassinet idea.

You have to do the gumpaste booties! They are pretty easy and so cute. Plus, they dry rock hard and can save them as a memory from when she announced her pregnancy. I did them for a friend's shower and she just loved them!

I like the idea of including something about "Daddy" on it with the due date. I love the basketweave cakes that look like a blanket with just a baby's face peeking out of the corner. Something like this:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=baby%20basketweave&cat=0&pos=28&search=baby%20basketweave

Then maybe a little sign that says "Congrats Daddy - I'll be arriving around (due date)!".

Maybe baby blocks spelling out " Daddy 2 Be"? I also really like the gumpaste pregnancy test (if you can get over the gross-out factor!), and the stork is a super-cute idea. icon_smile.gif

Gosh, I really, really, love all of these ideas. I'm going to see how well I can incorporate most of them. I think I'm going to go into the kitchen now and play around with some gumpaste, lol. Thanks everyone!

I would combine his favourite sport in a baby format so that he sees he is going to get a little slugger coming in the house.
I can't wait to see your cake and pls. post his response if your client tells you about his reaction.
