Any ideas for Monty Python? My husband likes the idea of the foot, but he wants the Happy Birthday writing to be squished under it like they do in the show. (It's for a friend of his). I don't know if I could pull that off. I also was thinking about the Black Knight sans arms and legs, but I'm not sure how tall it would have to be to resemble the character. This will be a 3D cake. Any suggestions?

Kitti

The foot would be good, have it coming down on fondant letters. The ankle could be made from stacked cakes and foot carved from another. Or how about a big can of SPAM?

You gotta post pics of this one for sure!

"It's only a flesh wound!" LOL I like the foot idea. Maybe you could put a single layer under the foot and pipe the squished letters on the side?

Ohh a big can of spam! That's a good one tripletmom! icon_biggrin.gif

You could also do a dead parrot in a cage.

Or you could put the words "And now or something completely different" on the cake.

When I asked my boyfriend about Monty Python ideas, the first thing he mentioned was the giant foot as well. Perhaps make it flat out of fondant and have it on top of the cake?

Like have the cake shaped tall and thin with the words on the side with the foot on top.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to either do the Black Knight or the Foot. I suggested the fat man, (I think his name was Mr. Creosote), but my hubby wasn't too keen on that one. I'm doing it for next week, so I'll post some pics.

Although me personally, I'd choose the Knights who say Nee, Or the Grim Reaper, and a canned salmon pate

Well, here's what I ended up with...the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.
We had actually put the idea on a back burner because someone else wanted to do something different. (This cake was for my husband's friend and co-worker.) Well, of course, that person backed out and on Tuesday my hubby asked if I could still do it. Since it was short notice, I figured I had better do an easy one. I made the cross on Tuesday with MMF and fixodent (it works!). I wasn't able to do the actual cake until last night, so I skipped the lid to the box and forgot the handles on the side of the cake. The inset picture (if you can see it) is a toy that I based the cake on. I couldn't find any real good images other than that. I still would like to do the Black Knight!
Anyway, I was happy with the results!

The fixodent was a suggestion from SquirrellyCakes. She had referred to it in several posts. I had a mask break on me (the gum paste was too brittle), so she once again suggested it to me. Unfortunately, on that project, time was short, so the fixodent wouldn't work on that, but I had to give it a try. She says to mix about 1 tsp of powdered fixodent into a wad of fondant the size of a baseball. You then use it just like gum paste. It hardened just like the gum paste would and it has a minty smell to boot! Since it goes in peoples mouths, it is safe for this medium. It has to be the powder. If you've got extra fondant, give it a whirl. I got a 1.6 oz bottle for under $4.

I'll look to see if I can find one of her posts.

Don't know if I am too late kiddo but did you see the post I made about adding Fixodent denture powder to fondant, it has to be the powder, got this from a wonderful decorator Sewsweet2.
Just going to copy her post right here in case you are still home.
No excuses....now don't laugh at me. Go to the store and buy "Fixodent" denture adhesive powder. It has to be the powder. I add about a teaspoon of this to a wad of fondant about the size of a baseball. Knead it into the fondant and use like gumpaste. It will get hard for you and you'll have great ribbons. Someone at the RCCA cake show in Omaha, NE, a couple of years ago, told me this hint. They had check it out and it is safe to use. After all, you use the denture adhesive in your mouth. Your gumpaste has the added benefit of being a little minty smelling too.

Wow! I had never seen those posts or heard of it! Never in a million years would I have thought of something like this! Very cool! Gotta hand it to Squirrelly though, she knows her stuff!

So is it better than Gum Tex?

I've only used gumtex once and this was a first with the fixodent, but I didn't have problems with either. I guess you can compare prices and availability. Sometimes gumtex isn't available here, but the fixodent is no problem.
