Wow! I need to learn more about rice paper. I don't really know how to use it, but these are impressive. Is there a good tutorial on using rice paper somewhere? You've done an excellent job! : )

The link Missy posted takes you to the tutorial on making the butterfly's. I drove over to Hobby City today since there is a cake shop there that'll print on the frosting sheets and rice paper, and he had never even heard of doing these either. I need to make a bunch more and just don't have the time to put into drawing them by hand, so I got 3 sheets at $5/sheet printed. I need to get these little ones hooked up with a video so I can concentrate in the kitchen for the rest of the day icon_smile.gif

Well, they are definitely coming along. I was going to frost them smooth, but when I swirled the frosting on to get started, I liked the way it looked, so this is how they are looking so far. I've got the chocolate cup cakes on pink swirled fondant hearts and the white ones will be on purple swirled fondant hearts. Trying to decide if I should put some leaves with the pansies.

These look so great.

I don't think I have the patience or the skill to colour them by hand..... *cry*

beany, it is time consuming, but not really hard. Thanks.

Stephanie, thanks. She really did enjoy that project (then my best friends daughter wanted to have a science party in January for her birthday, so we did another one pretty similar for that and she did the fine details on that one for me too). Thanks on the cup cakes too. They are coming out pretty cute icon_smile.gif

Thanks. When I'm all done, I'll have to get a top view and all. I ran out of miringue powder, so I couldn't finish making the frosting last night. Ran to the grocery store, but they never heard of the stuff, so I have to wait till either Michaels or the Tall Mouse opens here this AM. Hopefully BEFORE my husband wakes and goes to work so I won't have to drag my 3 y/o and 4 y/o along (goes much faster when you can run to the store w/out kiddos).

Thanks. They are fairly time consuming, but really not that hard to do. ANd I'm told a tad chewy but otherwise edible icon_smile.gif

Hi Sheila,

Just looked at your beautiful work.

Your pansies are pretty. Can you give me your tip on making them...I never could grasp them?

I love doing pansies. The painting takes the most time. I didn't paint these ones till they were dry, and I have to say, I like the way they come out when you do them wet better (it bleeds a bit into the frosting making it look more realistic when the frosting is still wet). I make the base two yellow petals first. then do the purple wavy petal on the other half, then go back to the yellow for the two top petals. And then the yellow stymen thingie in the middle. So I have three bags set up when I do them. I paint them before I put the yellow stymen in the middle so it doesn't bleed on that. I can generally whip out about 25 of them per hour (which isn't a lot, but, it's well worth the time).

I tried doing it the way that you do and I still couldn't get it. Guess I'm not a pansy making person icon_lol.gif

What size tip do you use?

Can you use rice paper to make them? if so, maybe I'll have better luck icon_wink.gif

I think I use a 103 or 104. I usually do the 103 simply b/c I want them a tad smaller. Not sure if you can do them w/rice paper. Maybe fondant or gumpaste? icon_smile.gif I had a hard time w/the pansies at first till I realized the purple is all one petal. Not multiples like you do w/the yellow. The flowers I have the worst time with are the daisies and daffodils. Still can't do those to save my life.
