I will be making my first stacked cake this week. The bottom cake will be a 14" round with BC icing. It will be on one of the Wilton 16" cake rounds (the thick one with the silver foil covering it). I plan to transport each cake seperately and will put the cake together at the hall. Of course I have no problems with getting the 6" and 10" layers into cake boxes. I was thinking about just putting plastic wrap over it, but I'm afraid it will mess up the icing. I'm wondering what everyone else uses for their 14" round cakes?

I always use those huge Rubber Maid plastic organizers (w/ lid) to transport any size of cake, but I put those rubbery non slip thingies you put under a rug (a new one of course) so they won't be shifting side to side ..!!! icon_smile.gif

I agree on the large Rubbermaid tubs. It's always very windy where I live and plastic wrap always seems to get stuck to the cake and ruin the icing!

I too use the LARGE Rubbermaid Tubs with the lids..I also use a "eggcrate" foam thing that is used for us older folkies for comfort on our beds. I use this as a "cushion", underneath the tubs while in transport. One just never knows when or where you will hit a pothole or bump... I too put a rubber mat thingy underneath the cake in the tub so the cake doesn't move.

Good luck with your transport..... thumbs_up.gif

If the weather is good, I don't put them in anything. I put a clean towel or sheet down in my trunk/cargo area.

Don't wrap plastic on the cake. You will ruin your decorations. If you really want to put it in something....how about a large cardboard box from a moving company??

What kind of rubbermaid tubs are you talking about. Are they the cake carriers. Sorry if this is a dum question.

The tubs I use are the storage tubs. I think I currently am using something other than Rubbermaid b/c it's clear w/ a snap on lid. It's large... something like this http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd100256
It's not a cake carrier.

The rubbermaid tubs I use are the LARGE rectangular ones, I get mine over here at Wal-Mart, and they are the Clear ones, the lids have blue handles on them. They are just the perfect sizes(I got all the differ sizes) for my cakes on transport.

Good luck on your transport.......... thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

It absolutely drives my mother-in-law batty when I transport wedding cakes! She is more nervous than I am, and she merely stays home with the kids while I deliver and set up!

I simply remove the seats from my van (depending on how much room I need), lay down a clean blanket and towels, and place the cakes on the towels, well away from each other.

Only one time did I have a cake slide, and that was because someone cut me off, and I had to hit the brakes or rear-end them! Luckily, it only moved a couple inches, very minor repair needed to the border.

I use moving boxes, I line the bottom with non-skid rubberized shelf liner, also put some under the box in the car. I cut the front flaps down, place the cake, tape the flaps up.
