I've seen these around in the shops and online and am just wondering if any uses them, what they are like, etc.

TIA,

I've tried the Creme Bouquet in my BC but didn't really notice much of a difference. To me, it seemed to alter the aroma of the BC, more so than the actual taste.

Hi, I have used creme buquet in both my cakes and icing for several years. I think that it adds a nice flavor to both. Everyone that has eaten one of my cakes loves it. Be careful with the amount b/c to much will overpower anything!!!

I use butavan and creme royal and they are both wonderful! I don't know if you have heard of Earlene Moore, but she swears by butavan. It really gives my buttercream a nice flavor. The creme royal I use when I want more of a citrus flavor (very slight). I would definitley recommend trying it.

OMG! I love, love, love butavan! I put it in my vanilla cakes & my icing. It give such a rich deep flavor. You can totally tell the difference AND a little goes a long way. I get mine from SugarCraft.com

I just bought some creme bouquet yesturday.. So how much would you add to one batch of BC icing? It smells wonderful.. Mrs. Missey just the aroma would be nice, that way when you walk into the area where the cake will be displayed. Not only will it look and taste good, but it will smell good too?? Can't wait to try it..

I bought some creme bouquet a while back, but have only used it a couple of times...had the same results as MrsMissey...seemed to give more aroma than flavor. It does smell wonderful, though. But I could never figure out how much of it to add so that it could be tasted in my icing, but not overpower it. My husband and I finally figured out that, to us, that it smelled just like my lemon icebox pie...lol. Just a nice sweet, citrusy aroma...wish I knew just how much to add to my icing icon_redface.gif

As for butavan, never tried it, but heard only good things about it...how can you go wrong with butter and vanilla?! lol icon_razz.gif I plan on ordering some soon. icon_smile.gif

My opinion of creme bouquet is that it is a disgusting vile substance. It's like adding perfume to you frosting, and not in a good way.

I believe you'd be much better off just adding some Chanel Number 5 to your frosting. At least it would be Chanel! icon_smile.gif

If you want citrus, why not just add lemon juice? I add fresh squeezed myer lemon juice. The myers are sweeter than other lemons and have a wonderful flavor. Everyone who has tried my lemon buttercream loves it. I can't even stand store bought lemon juice, much less citrus flavoring.

Also I can't stand the butter flavorings, they just taste fake to me, like movie popcorn. I am willing to have a slightly offwhite frosting and use half butter half crisco. Unless placed next to white frosting, it looks white to me. My point being I have not tried butavan, but don't think I would like it.

I use creme bouquet. For 6 c. of bc frosting, I use 1 t. vanilla and 1 t. of the creme bouquet. I think it adds a nice, subtle flavor. I certainly wouldn't want to add too much. I find that the aroma is much stronger when you first add it, but then it goes away.

LOL! Talk about "couture wedding cakes" hehe....

I'll probably just stick to my real stuff. After being raised on a dairy farm, it's almost sacrilegious to use "fake" butter!

Just thought I'd see what the general consensus was on these things as I'd not used either of them before.

Thanks for the replies!
*still LMAO at the Chanel No. 5*

I had heard so much about this flavor that I just knew it had to be very good...unfortunately, the name "Creme Bouquet" doesn't give you any clue that it comes out kinda citrusy. I didn't like it either. I used it in MMF lastnight and it may work fine for the cake I'm doing for my cousin's baby shower but I would have really messed up a whole lot of icing had I not realized this lastnight with the MMF. I have never been a big fan of lemon cakes or cookies although I love lemon pie, but I don't know what I'm going to do with the two bottles I bought of this stuff!
