I figured out what I'm going to do for a coworker's promotion/going away cake. It's going to be an outhouse (old wooden outdoor toilet for those of you who might be wondering icon_lol.gif ) with the words, "If you really gotta go..."

I'm thinking of stacking 3 or 4 8" square layers and then using royal icing plaques to make the walls. What can I make the roof with? Maybe I need to use MMF and silver luster dust, what do you all think?

Any ideas or pictures I could reference would be awesome!

Thanks, Tarina

LOL, now this made me laugh, thats an awesome idea. You could carve a slant on the top squares and then use royal icing plaques for the roof.

I couldn't find outhouse cake pictures, but I found real outhouses, maybe this could be a help!

Oh, I love that...If you really gotta go with an outhouse! You could probably use royal icing plaque for the roof also. I think some outhouses have flat roofs.

I've given an outhouse cake some thought myself!

Living in Vermont and having come from a family with a long history in the deep south, I'm familiar with the ever-practical outhouse. I've seen and visited some real beauties! Unfortunately, most of the gatherings I make cakes for involve kids, and most kids these days don't have a clue about what the heck an outhouse is.

As far as I know, all outhouses must have a slanted roof to shed "the weather." Also, the crescent moon on or over the door is essential and symbolic...of what, I don't know.

I had thought about putting a "reading material" rack somewhere, maybe beside the door, and setting it in a grassy scene.

It's a great cake idea, and you've been offered some good pictures here.

Please, please post a pic of the "throne" you make!

I know there is a candy mold for an outhouse that includes the seat inside!! I have used this before and it turns out great! I am not sure which company makes it. I have a class to teach tonight and will be at the store. If I can find out I will get back to you in case you are interested!
