Well here is my disaster. I wanted this to be a crooked cake but as you can see, it isn't. My b-i-l wife asked me to make an airplane cake (but it was for 3 b-days so I tried to get all 3 interests into one cake). Then she calls me at 8:30 the night before the party and says that she didn't want it to be themed for one person's interest - do whatever I want.
My first sign of disaster was when I tried to split the cake for torting. I have never made a crooked cake on purpose before and this one didn't want to go crooked.
I made a homemade carrot cake and had a pudding between two layers. The moat I used wasn't strong enough to hold the layers up and it collapsed on top of itself......causing a huge bulge and oozing. I thickened the wall and I put it in the freezer. Living in AZ and it being a warm day, my icing was never the right consistency or it would melt. I ended up treating this as an ice cream cake - decorate, freeze, decorate, freeze......and each time the filling oozed out more and more and the bulge got bigger and bigger and a level cake appeared. Everyone loved it and no one mentioned the bulge (and this family is so comfortable with each other that they would have mentioned it).
I was so bummed out and kept calling it "the stupid cake". By the end of the day, the cake and I were not on speaking terms. My daughter kept saying it looked pretty, she liked it. What do 11 yr olds know?haha
I tried to add the pic but I'm not sure it attached itself. I suppose I'll have to suck it up and post it in the gallery and wait for all the laughter.
I think the cake looks great. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted , but at least it wasn't a complete disaster.
I think it's adorable!! Cut yourself some slack... no one else knew it was supposed to be something else!!
I like your color combination and I think it came out nice.
You're being too hard on yourself!
