I'm in the Kansas City area and wonder if anyone out there knows if there are classes out here to teach things NOT taught in the Wilton classes... more specialized things that is. If anyone knows I'd love to have that info! Really what I think would be cool would be to study along side of a more experienced decorator and learn from her. I think this would be a great way to learn, but classes are great too.
So, anyone from KC know?

I live in Miami, FL ... I recently discovered a cake supply store near my house that does specialized classes ... it's my understanding that all the classes they offer come out to like 3000....they teach different kinds of flowers .... maybe you can check with supply stores near you

Colette Peters will be in the Little Rock, AR, area March 25th giving a 4 hour demonstration. I seriously considered going; but I have a wedding cake to do that weekend! icon_sad.gif How far of a drive is that for you? The cost is $75.00 If you go to Earlene Moore's website (www.earlenescakes.com) I believe you can find more information. Not the same as taking a class I know, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper and would be an interesting experience.

Found it:

The Colette Peters class would be fun... not sure if that's doable or not. I'd drive that far, but I'd have to convince my hubby it was worth the drive. : ) The price would definitely be worth it, except for the cost of gas to get down there. That might be what does this one in for me! : (
Thanks for the info. icon_biggrin.gif

I would love to take some more advanced classes too. I've taken wilton course 1, 2 & 3 and the fondant class. I'd love to get into the gumpaste flowers and such. Some of the flowers they make on the cake decorating shows are just absolutely amazing. Not sure I could do all those learning on my own. I do fairly well with most things, but I'm really a visual learner. After course one, I was kicking myself for not taking the classes a decade earlier because once I saw it, it just clicked and away I went. In fact, the instructor was certain I'd had previous instructions.

Colette give classes all the time at Wilton in Illinois. I'm not sure how far that is from you Wendysue. I took a class from Colette at an artists retreat in PA last year and it was worth every penny! I learned so much in 3 days, 8 hours a day, that I was ready to hit the ground running. I think you'll find that with any of those published decorators out there that teach.

Baker's Rack in Lenexa has classes. Not sure how "specialty" they are. She doesn't teach in the summer, but you could call her and find out. She's pretty helpful.
