my favorite is yellow cake. So if I can't think of the exact something it is usually Yellow cake. However I have found Golden Oreo's tend to hit the spot also icon_smile.gif

If I dont' want anything on the cake try Cake Cookies. Once you have your batter just spoon it out 12 to your sheet and bake. I think I usually end up baking them about 6-8 minutes. The DH yellow cake mix always seems to turn out with a nilla waffer taste.... mmmm.... ok now i'm hungry too!

in no particular order: Hows about:

1) coconut pecan (like on German Chocolate)

2) raspberry straight or moussed

3) kaluha

4) mocha (made w/ kaluha)

5) cherry (and soak the cake w/ rum)

6) baileys

hmmmm.....seem to be vearing a bit off topic in to spirits not just fillings!

where do you and how do you get these ideas for fillings and how do you make them? is there some great website or something with recipes on it cuz i would love to experiment on the cakes i do for bdays at work since they don't care what flavors and decorations, so basically i am getting paid to play. icon_biggrin.gif

It's sort of a combination of things...just playing around, really & looking at flavor menus from websites...gets me thinking...lol. One website that has some great flavor/filling combinations is www.thegrandfinale.com Sweet Suggestions is what she calls her flavors list. Plus, I just wonder if something will work and try it, sometimes. Like tonight...I had some leftover caramel (could've just eaten it all by itself icon_razz.gif ) but I started wondering if it could just be mixed into some buttercream. Well, I wanted to try making IMBC (Italian Meringue Buttercream) so I made some and then I warmed the caramel in the microwave (it had been in the fridge and was super thick) then let it come to room temp and then I added it to the IMBC, along with a little cocoa powder - made it a sort of mocha-caramel flavor...really yummy! When it was done, the texture of the IMBC resembled more of a regular BC.

Just start thinking of flavors that you like, and then think which of those flavors would go well together...make a list if it helps you to see them on paper & keep it straight in your head. The next experiment I'll do, in a few days, is a chocolate-orange-almond chunk cookie, maybe pecans instead of almonds...we'll see! icon_razz.gificon_lol.gif Don't be afraid to play around...just write stuff down as you go in case it turns out to be great! icon_smile.gif

I just wanted to tell you all that the cake I made last night is absolutely one of the best flavor combinations I've ever had! It's definitely for the coffee lovers, as the espresso in the cake is not exactly weak...lol. It's not overpowering, but you can taste the flavor of it...very good with the chocolate. And the filling tasted even better in the cake than it did on its own! Complements the cake nicely. I used the Chocolate Layer Cake posted here in the recipes section by Tripletmom (Thanks!), but instead of using 1 1/2 cups hot brewed coffee...I used 1 cup hot coffee and 1/2 cup strong espresso (DH has a machine!)....it really kicked up the coffee flavor! It's covered in choc. ganache with a mocha-caramel filling. This one is definitely a keeper for my shop!! I just have to think up a name for it now....MochaChino? MochaMelChino? MochaChinoMel? Caramel Espresso? Caramel-Mocha-Espresso? CaraMochaSpresso? lol Chocolate Rush? with all the coffee & espresso it kinda gets ya going lol icon_razz.gificon_lol.gif

HA! That's great! love it thumbs_up.gif THANKS! icon_wink.gif

Quadcrew - I made some IMBC, then warmed the caramel (since it'd been in the fridge a couple of days) in the microwave, let it come to room temp and then just mixed it into the IMBC with a little cocoa powder. It thickened it nicely, almost to a reg. BC consistency. Then I just filled the cake with it as usual. I tasted it last night & it was great, but this morning it was even better! (I had a small piece for breakfast icon_razz.gif ) I guess it's just one of those things that's better the next day icon_rolleyes.gificon_smile.gif
