I made the Choco-Laco cake thinking oh I've heard some great reviews of it from other bakers about how delish it is... Well, I can't say it turned out like it was suppose to... I didn't open the oven but the cake was SO indented in the center!

I followed the recipe like a good little baker, but it came out squatty (about 1" tall is all the higher I could go to have the cake level.. Mind you, I'm a WASC in my sleep kind of baker, and I grew up making scratch cakes. I've had cakes fall before, but they're usually doughy but this wasn't doughy, it wasn't crumbly, etc. The top was like a rock, then the center was about a half-inch down from where the sides of the cake were. I cut the top crust off and so far so good on how it turned out. I've just never had this happen with a cake before...

Someone tell me what I did wrong?????

Maybe too much liquid and/or your leavening has died. It could also be not enough sugar.

Sometimes when we are trying too hard to follow a recipe perfectly we accidentally make mistakes. I've never tried Colette's Choco-Laco cake, so I'm afraid I can't be of any more help.
