Rock Climbing Cake-Does This Look Ok? Or Does It Need More?

OK, granted, this is my first large scale project with fondant. Not the best looking, but it's ok. I had a request for a cake shaped like a mountain for a rock climbing birthday party tomorrow. The cake is covered in fondant that is not fully blended to give it a more marbelized look for the rock, and then white fondant for the snow on top (it really is white, just does not look like it in the lighting I had). I feel like it needs something at the base. But wasn't sure if some "grass" and flowers would be to much with the snow on top. Maybe I'm just being to critical and should call it done? Idea's welcome

You did a wonderful job! I love the marbelized look. I do have to agree - maybe a little something at the bottom would be nice. Maybe some trees along with the grass? Let us know what you decide.

There's so little space for anything at the base, that was part of my delema (that , and I tend to worry my creations to death! LOL). Thanks for the encouragement though. I had a vision of what it would look like, but I have trouble attaining that in reality. I figure she's picking it up at 9:30 tomorrow morning, so I have till 9AM to decide if I should add anything...... I was thinking of maybe some tuffs of grass along the base, but not toally around (some bare spots inbetween) and then a few small flowers in the grass. I've got some royal icing flowers that I did that are pretty petite (takes four to fit on a dime) so they wouldn't be totally overwhelming, but would add just a tad bit of color.

OK, I decided it definitely needed a base border, so I did the grass with the flowers. It's now uploaded in my photos. I feel much better about it now, so now I can go to bed. Nite icon_smile.gif

I just looked at your cake again and you were right it did need something and the tuffs or grass with flowers made your whole cake come together.

Beautiful work!

The glass and flowers border really set it off beautifully.

Great job! Isn't it a really nice surprise when your customers call tell that you put extra effort into your cakes and they reward you a little extra for it! icon_lol.gif
