Anyone find that a pasta machine is invaluable for your fondant work?

I have other priorities right now (like an airbrush!) but wondering if you all use pasta machines for ribbons and such or if you just do it by hand.

I've never done any fondant work, but I am planning to icon_biggrin.gif !

I bought the pasta machine at Michael's with a 40% off coupon. It's reg. $25 or so, got it for about $15.00.

I've used a similar one for pasta, and another one for polymer clay, and I think it'll be very convenient, so I went ahead and got one just for fondant when I had a coupon to use and a bit of spending money to spare.

I think they have them at Hobby Lobby also, in the polymer clay section.

The clay pasta machine at Michaels was on sale this week. Not sure when that ends. I think it was $14.99.
I bought one with my 40% off coupon the week before!
This version is a little smaller than a regular pasta machine. PERFECT for fondant!

I bought a pasta machine at Michaels this week for $14.88. They are usually $29.99. They should be that price thru Saturday. I think all stores run the same ads, but I'm not sure. I am anxious to try it out.

Wow I didn't realize you could get them at Michael's! Cool! Must be in the clay section?

My husband is going to be tired of these 40% off coupons I collect each week LOL!

Are there any attachments that make round tubes like thick spaghetti? I had a cake one time where I had to make tons of little swirls and it would have been nice to not have to roll all the "snakes" by hand!

No attachments but you don't have to use your coupon this week. That is the sale price! Hobby Lobby has the plunger w/attachments to make hair, spaghetti etc. They both have a lot of molds etc also. Joann's Fabric also has a lot of tools etc. I don't know if they are common anywhere else or not.

Probably but its more pricey and make sure you go to Amazon.com and read the reviews! I was thinking about buying one but then saw that some of them, the customers were not satisfied.

The last time I was in Joannes I noticed that they had a pasta machine, the hand crank type (no motor) which is what I already have to use with fondant, I didn't look at the price as I already had one, but just wanted to let everyone know that they had one. You could also use your 40% off coupon for this one. The hand crank type works great for what I use it for.

I just bought a Norpro brand pasta machine at Ross this week for 16.00. It's very heavy duty and feels like it's built to last!!! I can't wait to give it a try . icon_biggrin.gif

Cool just went to Michael's and got the $15 pasta machine for clay....also used a 40% coupon for a metal plunger-thing with interchangable discs. Can't wait to use it! I was going to get some of those Sculpey figure books too but I drew the line at spending money. Haha. Maybe next month! Anyway I think Ebay has better deals on those.

I am considering buying a pasta machine but my husband wants one that is big enough to roll it out to the size I need i.e. to cover a 12" or whatever!

I know that these smaller machines roll out smaller portions but what do you essentially use it for since it doesn't roll out the fondant big enough to cover a cake?

I bought the same pasta/clay machine that Michaels has, at AC Moore around Christmas time on sale for $10. I just got to use it for the first time this week, but I'm thinking about returning it. The first part would roll thru just fine, but when it got to the end I wasn't able to get the last bit to roll out. It would get stuck in there and then I would have to take a sharp thin knife the clean it out! What a pain in the pootooie that was! I went back to using my little fondant roller and doing it by hand.

The little fondant roller would be to roll out strips for ribbons or bows or cutouts or even dresses or etc for fondant figures, or for molds.

I guess. icon_biggrin.gif

How do the machines at Michael's work? Electric or manual? And like Cakemommy said, how big of a cake can it cover?

The Michael's pasta rollers are completely manual and are only about 6" wide... it's only good for making accent pieces. They're sold with the polymer clay stuff.

You can buy professional wide-format powered rollers for fondant, but they are about $6,000-10,000 if I remember correctly

The pasta machines are also good for making fondant pearls, you roll out the sheet of fondant, and then cut them with the same size tip to have uniform sized pearls also works great for small fondant pieces etc.

AHHHHH!!!! That's what I figured! I don't work enough with fondant to justify buying one right now but in the future......!!!!!

Kelleygirl~ Go to Joanns and sign up to get their flyers in the mail. They are the same as you can get in the store or in the Sunday ads but the one you get in the mail has the 40% off coupon on it!!! It's totally worth it! Oh yeah.....you have to take the entire flyer in to the store with you and have them scan it so you will continue to get them in the mail!!!

If Joanns is out of something and Michael's has it, Michael's will accept their coupons and vice-versa!!!!!

I have an ATLAS pasta machine, my husband bought me last year. It has a detachable motor and a hand crank, (does both). I love it! It helps out so much. Mine was a bit pricey though.

Michaels coupons are in the Sunday paper almost every Sunday. If you don't get a paper, you can tell them and they will have you sign something and give you the discount! Good Luck!
