No pun intended , Pink, but sounds like you need a cake buddy to help you. Do you have anyone that could help you? Usually after 24 hours you are not contagious. ALSO, if you wear eye make-up, you'll want to GET RID OF IT. As that little germ will still be on there. I had to do that with my daughter who got it just before thanksgiving. Sorry I can't be a surrogate for ya, I'm on the other side of the states. CAN ANYONE HELP PINKBUNNY??? icon_sad.gif

So sorry to hear about your pink eye. Personally, I have never had it, but I understand it can be quite a pain. And you are right, highly contagious.

What about wearing safety googles while you bake? icon_smile.gif And gloves?

I know it is not funny that you have this problem, I just can't think of anything . . . other than to offer you my empathy.

Hopefully once you get meds for it, it won't take long for it to start getting better.

Well, why dont you try calling some places for that lady you havent spoken to yet...maybe you'll be able to find something within the same price range that she wouldve paid you......this way your just ahead of the game and when you finallly speak to her maybe she wont get too disappointed since at least you tried to find her other alternatives..

Hope you feel better!!!

cakes4fun, what a great idea. That is why I love this place. Everyone has such great ideas.

I guess I just don't think outside the box too often.

Pinkbunny, if you weren't on the other side of the state I would help out, but then again, my skills aren't up to your level.

I had the itchy, dry, red eye yesterday. But I thought it was b/c I was soooo tired and was looking at the comp. too much yesterday!! But today I have swelling and 'yucky' stuff!!! So I'm hoping the doc says I should be fine tom. Not sure where I got it.....don't wear makeup...and I haven't been anywhere but work and my house for the last four days. I thought about my son's daycare.....but I called the day care and they said none of the kids/parents said anything. But I was playing w/a few kids yesterday when I picked up my son...so I wanted to them be aware!!!

But what is werid is I was just reading an article yesterday about how Pink Eye has been going around central florida lately...they were giving how to avoid tips and how to care for it if you have it!!! And I was thinking....man that sucks!!!

But yeah....def. need a cake buddy!!!! I have a few people in my local cake club that could possibly help....but won't be able to get a hold of them until tonight when they get off work. So I hope they dont have a busy schedule this weekend. ....luckily I only have the baking (cake & filling) part left to do. But putting the cake 'together' is the hard-time consuming part!!!

YEAH!!!! just got back from the doc. he said I should be able to bake....wash hands often and NO touching face!!!! he said unless i touch my face and then touch something else i can't pass on this irritating virus!!!! AND i went ahead and called the lady i couldn't get a hold of....was just going to leave a message.....well her husband answered!! DUH!!! should have known someone was going to be there b/c they have kids!! he said to go ahead and make it. they've had pink eye in their family before....so he understands!!! He said they trust I won't contaminate their cake!!! So I told him just to be on the safe side, I will wait until tom. to do anything. Going to make for a long night though!!!! Even though my eye is driving me crazy....I feel better!!!

Best wishes to you getting better. I just got over a cake of pink eye a week ago. Not much fun so I fully understand. I spent most of the week that I had it washing my hands constantly so that I didnt spread it to my husband or kids. Luckily it was just me who got it from a cold I had the week prior.

Back to the cake though. I would call around to other local bakeries like cakes4fun said, or if you know another person who bakes/decorates maybe they could help you out. I am sure the person would understand. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck and take care of yourself. I got the redness to clear up with taking a washcloth and wetting it with really cold water and then laying down with it on my eyes for 20 minutes at a time a few times a day. Just make sure you use a new wash cloth each time so that the infection doesnt spread.

Pinkbunny, you are so funny! It's great of you to be so cautious, but I'm sure if you use proper hygeine it'll all be fine! As long as you don't wipe your eye goop in the buttercream and they customer doesn't smoosh it into their eyes it won't be a problem!!! What do you do when you have a cold? I had such fun reading this because I never heard pink eye being described as if it was like a plague....by the way, Similisan now makes pink eye drops (they're a homeopathic treatment) that maybe you should look into in case it ever happens again and you can't get right to the Dr.

I don't think pink eye would bother me in my baker as much as if I showed up and the person had open sores on the hands or giant coldsores, but that's just me!

I would not make any cakes until you know you are completely safe.
My legal knowledge is sketchy, so please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Even if she says that it is okay, and someone else who eats the cake and gets sick can still sue. If someone's child gets pink eye and heaven forbid loses an eye or something, you're in serious trouble.

I would not take the chance. Pink eye is very contagious and I think your doctor is crazy. (No offense.)

Pinkeye is NOT fun. I can't imagine having to do an order while having it.

I got it one time when I was going to Baltimore with family to pick up a car for an Aunt, but didn't "get attacked" by it, until the day I was leaving, and had to drive 950 miles back home by myself, while the rest of the family drove in the other car. Made for a long boring drive. The worst thing is the kids that were on the trip with us, are the ones that gave it to me. I guess they were just happy to be rid of it. Once back home, I was laid up for 4 days, it was so bad.

I have no idea if you can lose an eye from pink eye, but knowing my luck some kid would get sick and have some rare disorder and something bad could happen. You never know and it's not worth the risk.

No offense.....and is very contagious....if I rub my eyes and then touch something else...and then someone touches that and then touches their eyes.....this isn't some airborne virus or anything....only by touch can it be transfered. That's why it's usually easily passed around kids!!! Most people don't realize how much they touch their face...most times it's an uncounious act!!! And most people don't wash their hands after touching their face.....so you can see why it is considered highly contagious.

But like others said it is usually most contagious in the 1st 24 hours....today would be my 2nd day (since I had it yesterday but didn't think that's what it was). It's mostly just not very 'pretty' and irritating (red, swelling, itchy, lots of puss... YUCK!!)....and I'm not going to do ANYTHING today!!! I will wait until tom. evening (will have 24hrs of medicine in me)....that way I won't be contagious....my eye just won't look good. Will make for a long night....but I just have to bake the cake and then to put all my decos on.

I've had Pink Eye a few times before......that's why my doctor said it was ok and I feel comfortable doing the cake. I know what to expect and know what NOT to do.

I didnt read all of these, so excuse me if I'm repeating something...

I gto pink eye 9 times my first year of college...so I have become quite an expert on it...

The BEST tip I ever got:

Sleep with a towel on your pillow. That way, you can just wash the towel each day, and not have to wear out your pillow case!!!

as one who has had pinkeye on a regular basis thanks to be a school teacher:

like all infections: the first time is the worst!!! after that you begin to build up an immunity until w/ repeated infections it's more like you didn't get enough sleep!!

even so....no matter when ....it stinks and yes you need meds

(just finished treating a bout of it that occured a month after having LASIK! such is my luck)

as for chance of contimantion.....I'd go one step further and not just wash, but also were disosable gloves.

Pink eye is spread by touch...and so long as not "dripping" from the eye and it drips into/onto the cake...and you wash hands thoroughly (i would even go so far as a bleach AND disfencting alcohol rinse, and wear the gloves (goggles wouldn't hurt either), I might do the cake.

the problem is it is just so instictive to wipe the eye that you've done it before you can stop it.

Pinkbunny, glad to hear that your doc says you can go ahead and bake.

Some of these descriptions are disgusting icon_smile.gif . . .

Doug said, in part, . . . "Pink eye is spread by touch...and so long as not "dripping" from the eye and it drips into/onto the cake...and you wash hands thoroughly (i would even go so far as a bleach AND disfencting alcohol rinse, and wear the gloves (goggles wouldn't hurt either), I might do the cake. "

I am sure you would not bake anything if you had anything dripping.

Good luck with a speedy recovery.
