I don't know if this could be classified as a disaster, but it always sticks in my mind as a little stressful. The first wedding cake that I did on my own was thankfully for a friend. It was her second wedding so her little girl was there, she was about four years old. I had just set up the cake and the little girl came up and took a bite out of the front of it. I've had little ones try to lick my wedding cakes too. It never hurts to keep them at a safe distance, although I love to see their looks of awe
If I'm doing a cake for a friend I love to make an extra tray of roses in buttercream to give to the girls and even some of the boys love them.

I'm sorry but that is just to hillarious! Last year for my daughter's 4th birthday we had a little boy lick the entire side of her cake. I was lighting her candles and she started pouting and I asked her what was wrong and looked just to see little Micheal licking the left side of her cake. It was funny but not at the time! At least you know it's good and beautiful if the kids just can't keep away from it!

Making extra roses is a great idea! The kids always love the roses. I made a 3d spiderman for my nephew and just as the party started...he liked an eye off. Too cute!

I know when I do cakes with fresh flowers as I take the flowers off before cutting I always give the flowers to the little girls (and boys if they want one), that way they don't stick their fingers in the icing as I am cutting the cake. Also if after you are done putting fresh flowers on a cake and you have leftovers, send them along (or bring them with) to place on the table next to the cake and the kids can also have those beside the ones on the cake(s).

It's one of the hardest things for kids to resisit I think. I mean that pretty icing is just sitting right there begging to be sampled. LOL My granddaughters can hardly stand it till we cut a cake. I give them a little spoon of icing to tide them over. Well I love it too!!
