I was wondering if anyone one has any suggestions on how to make this.
Picture is attached below. The pointed trowel is the one I need to make.
I am making a brick wall out of cake, with the trowel on the cakeboard.
Thanks if you can help?

depending upon size needed.

bend either a reg or a large paper clip to get the basic shape of the piece of metal connecting handle to blade leaving the extra to be basis of handle and trowel blade

then both handle and blade made out of MMF molded around the paper clip.

I would use something bigger than a paperclip. This could be accidently eaten!

I was watching HGTV last night and this guy was making paper mache items. He was working on making a hand for this figure he was creating and he used heavy gauge eletrical wire. He partially stripped it to get to the wires inside and formed them to the digits then wrapped delicately the palm and digits with metallic tape. It came out great after he coated them with paper pulp.

The point of this is that Doug's idea is close to it and probably would work great. If the paper clip is too small, then look to see if you can get some electrical wire with an outer casing and wires inside of it. You could partially strip the outer casing (leaving enough for the handle support) then shape the wires into the pointed shape. Cover with some form of tape perhaps then with fondant.

How about fondant, as was mentioned or modeling chocolate?

It shouldn't be too difficult to make out of gum paste, that way it would dry hard. You could also paint it afterwards with some colouring paste, and lustre dust end to look like metal.

Why couldn't you shape the handle with some florist wire and cover it with gum paste or mmf that way you may have a stronger bend on it and attach it to the trowel. Might work.

Melissaanne,

I have a baby trowel that I bought in a toy store in one of those home building kits. It's only about 8cm.
Have you tried a toystore or hobby shop?

i think i would make it from fondant or gumpaste and let harden. but i do like the other idea about buying one from the hobby shop...........

either way will work its just depends on what look you want.

Thanks everyone. I think I will try and make one out of gum paste, and if it doesn't work I will buy one. I'll let you know either way.
thanks again everyone?

melissa, this may not help at all but sugarcraft has a mold for gardening tools. Maybe you could use the digging tool and modify it to make it look like the real thing? Or they might even have a regular "tools" mold, I haven't really checked that close.
