I love Tuesdays!!! Tuesday is the day that I get to go to my Wilton class with my dear friend. She and I each have a 3 y/o and 1y/o daughter at home, and hardly ever get a chance to get out alone. icon_razz.gif

I am a first year school teacher, so before school I wake at 4:00 am to do things around the house that I can't do when the kids are awake. This includes baking my cakes for class. So I rise on Tuesday morn. I make a delicious Lemon Cake that my DH requested, tort it into 4 layers, fill it, crumb coat it, and leave it. I plan to ice it when I get home from school, and before I leave for class. My sitter arrives at 6:30. We love her, except......she doesn't speak very good English.

It is just another day at school, until my last period. This period typically leaves me wanting to pluck each of my eyebrow hairs out one at a time. They are a handful. Well, there was a run in with a student that absolutly left me in tears. This is my first tear filled school day ever, but I have since been told that jr high kids are gonna get me many more times. my principal releases me early, as I sob all the way home..........at least I have cake class tonight.

I get home, early, and get changed and am ready to ice a beautiful lemon cake. "Mommy" says my 3y/o " I tasted your beautiful cake and it was delicious" icon_eek.gif I run to my cake hiding spot (the oven, since my girls know that it is off limits) and there it is, my mauled lemon cake. Again.....Tears. Once they come they cant stop. 3y/o DD, is very apologetic and VERY complimentary icon_smile.gif So I dry my eyes, Attempt to make an even cut on the diaster of a cake, (there is NO time to make another) and instead of showing up to class with an oval cake, mine was more...would you say...bullet shaped. But I REALLY wanted to learn to do the basket weave. And I did learn. I didn't care how well it turned out, I had gotten over that about 3 hours before. All in all it wasn't as terribly ugly as maybe it could have been. You make the call. i'll post both sides. By the time i had gotten home, the side that had been munched on collapsed, but the couple of beers I had at the pub AFTER class, helped me care even less. thumbs_up.gif Guess I oughta find a new hiding spot, or learn Spanish a little better. icon_lol.gif

Thanks for letting me share. Sorry this is soooo long.

Your decorations turned out WONDERFUL! Good job on the cake AND your attitude! Personally I KNOW I wouldn't have handled it so gracefully!! Keep up the good work! icon_lol.gif

I can so relate!! I bet anyone on this forum with a toddler can relate to a Little Hand in the Cake story--I know I've got a couple. (Mine involves a phone call distraction and a two and a half year old who seized the moment. Two minutes and a face full of crumbs later, he proclaimed, "Delicious!")

Best for a good rest of the week. It's great to be able to get out with adults and do fun stuff--keep treating yourself to that, even after the Wilton classes end. icon_smile.gif

We are already registered for Course III, which begins next Tuesday. Hopefully I figure out a new system before I have 40 fondant roses lying around, for sweet little fingers to find.

Your cake is beautiful anyway! Actually, it's even more beautiful because of the tender loving care it received from your daughter. icon_biggrin.gif My mom had a porcelain bird figure that she really didn't want or plan to keep until my bro & sis accidentally broke it (throwing a ball in the house) & "secretly" attempted to glue back together. She's still got it because now it has character. For all time, you can always remember that she proclaimed it "delicious" & "beautiful." May you have many days of cake decorating & bonding in the years to come with your sweet little ones!!! icon_smile.gif

I heard a door slam in my house today, ran around the house calling for my 3 year old son with no luck. I went out front and out back, no footprints in the new snow, so I knew he was somewhere in the house. detective.gif After going from room to room calling for him, I finally found him...hiding in his closet eating my buttercream roses I made to take to my last class tomorrow. icon_eek.gif It was so funny, all I could do was laugh. I have time to make more and now that I have that practice under my belt, my new batch should look even better! icon_biggrin.gif

When I read this I could swear that it said "My sister arrives...she doesn't speak very good English." LOL!!! Then after reading the rest I had to go take another look at what it really said! Too funny. I was wondering how you had a sister that didn't speak English very well (well to say that there was a communication gap between you) icon_smile.gif

On the plus side of things your DD loved your cake icon_smile.gif She has a Mommy that is a great baker!

Oh that is good. Good for you for handling it so well. I had a shower cake all ready for a customer in the fridge and my oldest one (5 years old) had opened the fridge and picked off the trim on the side. I was so glad that I had gone to box it early enough to fix it! Great story.
