put the filling in the cake BEFORE you frost it? Yesterday, I made an "over the hill" cake, 11 x 15, chocolate with oreo cream cheese filling (It's in my gallery). I was frosting the second side of the cake with the crumb coat when I happened to glance to the side and noticed the bowl of oreo cream cheese filling sitting on the counter icon_eek.gif and COULD HAVE CRIED icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I had made my dam with the chocolate buttercream, then forget to fill the cake before putting on the top layer!!!!! OMG, what a MESS! I had to shimmy a cake board b/t the two layers with the help of two spatulas, frosting was everywhere! I did manage to get the top layer off, fill the cake, clean up the mess, and refrost with the chocolate buttercream. The cake turned out OK despite it all, thank you Jesus! Honest to god, I'm blaming this on turning 50 this year, because I have never done anything like this before!!!

Haven't dont that one yet, but forget to add the eggs to some banana bread I was making not too long ago. YUCK! At least you were able to get the layers back apart without major damage. Great save!

I've done the egg thing too, but this one was so stupid!! The filling was sitting right by my side!

Eggs seem to be an essential ingredient don't they? I've never had a request for an eggless cake and I know there are recipes out there, but I don't know if I'd feel very confident about the cake if I had to make one without eggs.

A few weeks ago I made a double batch of chocolate cake batter, and tested it just before I went to put it in the pans.

Blecccch..........forgot the sugar!

Fortunately, even after I added the sugar at the end, instead of the beginning, the cakes baked up just fine.

Been there, done that......thank goodness my DH noticed 'cause I didn't even realise it.
Another thing that happened to me just this week was I was making a fruit cake for the first time and as I am filling the pan my DH asked if I added the brandy already as the full bottle was still sitting on the table top....now that was a bit of a mess.

Have to love my DH!!!!!!

P.S.....and i'm not even close to 50 yet

Oh my gosh.... This is to funny. I was making the wrestling cake (in my photos) and I had it half decorated and remembered the kid wanted chocolate and peanut butter frosting for the filling and I completed forgot it. So he ended up getting a much bigger cake than planned. He is the one that called me and told me how great his cake was and that all his friends were jealous.... icon_lol.gif

Just to go back on the comment about forgetting the eggs in your banana bread if you do so in the future and have baked it do not throw it away.
Banana bread, zuchini bread and those sort of loaves make the best french toast.
You just put the slices in the egg mix as if you would bread and then fry it up in the pan. It is a nice way to change that old french toast on a Sunday morning thing.
Enjoy

Yep! I've done that! Baked the cake, cooled it and covered it with whipped cream and choc curls. Wasn't until it was finished that I remembered that I hadn't torted and filled it (and it was a chocolate gateaux, so should have had two layers of whipped cream filling! Luckily it was just for us, so it didn't matter!)

Well, I'm 54 and one day whipped up a big batch of WASC. Baked 'em up, they looked weird and flat and felt like bricks ... turns out, I had put all the ingredients into the mixer EXCEPT the cake mixes!!!

On one of my son's birthday cakes I forgot to add the filling.
Made a cake last week forgot the sugar(tasted like a bag of flour) thumbsdown.gif

BTW I'm 27 so age has nothing to do with it!!!!

OMG! That's funny! So are you telling me it gets worse the farther into the dreaded 50's I go???? This isn't good! I'm not taking aging very well.
