Could you add the character cake to a sheet cake to make more servings? I did this for my daughter's b-day one year. I did the Cinderella cake and added it to an oval cake to make it look like a cameo. Depending on what character it is you can make the sheet cake into a background or decorate with corresponding decorations.

Another thing that I have done, this was to make a fish but I'm sure you can do it with any shape, I used the football pan and also baked a sheet cake that was bigger than the football cake. Then I put the football cake on op of the sheetcake and just trimmed around it so the bottom cake was the same shape. Granted that was a simple design so I don't know how it will work on something more detailed. But I just filled in between the layers with icing like normal and it worked really well. I don't know how it would work either, but what if you just baked two of the character cakes and stacked them on top of each other, just like a regular two layer cake?

Welcome to CC. You find a great group here with lots of help and information.

Have you tried making any buttercream transfers (BCT)? Look under the articles section for the directions on BCT if you don't know how to do one and want to try it. I used to use the Wilton character pans until I learned how to make a BCT. I got really tired of piping all those stars, LOL!! With a BCT, you can make whatever size and shape cake you desire and need for the cake you want to make and you arean't limited to what you can find that Wilton makes.

Hope that helps!

berry9f65,
I made the Papa Smurf cake in my photos by using two 8" square cakes butted up against each other so it was tall enough and I made my own paper template, laid that on the cake and cut around it. It will give you the shape like a character pan and than you can just fill in with the design. I outlined him in black and then just filled in the colors.
HTH,
Heather

I'm with smileyface with the character pans. I haven't tried the BCTs as yet, but I have found pics in coloring books, traced them on tissue paper (the kind used in gift wraping) then laid them on the cake, and traced again, lightly, with a toothpick. removed the paper then outlined lines with icing. Then fill in with star tip. The Clifford the big Red dog in my photos was done this way.
I'm going to try the transfers soon. I have to trace things, I couldn't freehand diddly.
PS, my whole point is if you use this method, you can do it on whatever size sheetcake you want.

You might also want to try posting this in the cake section. There are a lot of people there that make cakes but don't come in to the cookie section. You will definately get a lot more responses in any of the cake sections.
