So I just got into cake decorating in the last 8 months and I made my first really "birthday cake" for my son 3rd birthday last october. well as I was putting the cake together. the top tier fell apart on the side. So naturally I paniced, but my husband had just walked in at that very second with a bag of diecast 'john deere' equipment trunks(they were supposed to be part of tyson presents)-I grab them. we had the side of the cake "excavated" with a back hoe loader. the other thing that launched my panic attack was the center of the top tier actually broke in half, so to cover that disaster I put raisinette "boulders" into the huge crack and had a front end loader 'pushing' them in . The only reason that the cake was a hit was my husband and his suggestions and timing, I would have scraped the whole project otherwise(which he wouldn't have minded, a whole cake he could eat by himself. ) I still laugh everytime i see the pictures of the stupid cake.

-I cant find the picture cd with the photos, When I do I will post them-

Some of the best cake ideas spring up out of near disasters...sometimes you have to step back and forget what is was supposed to be, and ask, what COULD it be?

Good save!

What a great guy! It's funny, we get on a husband bashing roll sometimes, then someone relates something wonderful their husband does. It's nice to be reminded how great they can be (when they want to be).

I have to thank God for my dear hubby too. He helps me on every cake. I have to do one tonight and told him I couldn't do it unless he was home. His reply was "Why because there won't be anyone else there to yell at." HA! He is such a good help when I have trouble with cakes. He always has a solution to help me out.

yeah guys can really help! i made a teapot cake and had a fondant handle. well to say the least the handle would not stay on the cake without help. well here comes my boyfriend will a drill and he finds a way to use dowel rods and the handle stays! it really saved the cake!

Mine is great about "helping" too - mostly the good kind. More than once, he has asked a question like, "will that be a big enough cake?" or "did you remember to...?" He also for some weird reason has good suggestions too! He has saved the day (and the cake) on more than one occaision and I am so grateful!

My husband is great too. The first wedding cake that I did he talked me through an uneven 16" square after it was iced nothing would sit on it level, I was ready to trash it and start over at 11:00 at night (wedding next day). He helped get it level and calm me down we got it done and the cake looked good. Your cake looked great!!

my son went nuts when I brought out the cake. thank god that excavation is our family business(my grandparents own and most of the family works for them in one way or another). I think the guys liked it more then the kids did. which is really funny, my uncle actually to take the trucks home with him for his collection. ha ha ha ha ha ha
