Whats the easiest way to get a "deep" red color. Not as dark as burgandy but darker than the red(no taste). It's for an 11 x 15 sheet cake.

I have the red red but am afraid of altering the taste of the frosting (I read that somewhere). I could try adding black I think. Its for the whole cake not just decorations.

Start with putting cocoa powder in your icing to make it chocolate then add the red.

Have you tried adding a bit of burgandy to the red. Just this last week I had the same problem. I was making red fondant, I added red(no taste) until it wasn't changing color at all, but it wasn't the deep red I wanted. So a added a bit of burgandy and got the perfect color.

On the kitchengifts website, they said to use cherry juice to get a pink color and then use the red paste color. It will get darker as it ages.

Thanks I'll try the cocoa first. When I added burgandy I got more of a purple color. Maybe I didn't have enough red in it. And I got cherry juice too. I'll try anything to get this red. Thanks again to all of you
