Hi,

I was just wondering how you imprint diamond patterns on a buttercream cake, what tool is used and where to find one. Is it a template or mat of some kind? I want to use this pattern on a cake and put silver dragees where the diamonds meet together. It almost looks like a quilt pattern, that's the best way I can describe it.

By the way, Does anyone else have problems finding silver dragees in a store? I had to go on the internet to get them!

thanks!

You can buy impression mats with the diamond shapes from sugarcraft.com, as well as other websites.

I will be making a cake with these impressions as well, thanks for the info on where to find. Does anyone have any tips on applying the impressions?

Hi Schmoop,

I haven't done these impressions either, but I did read up on how to use them.
I was told to leave at least an inch space in the back just in case the pattern doesen't line up evenly all the way around the cake. When you reach the back of the cake, you can draw in the lines in that inch space if it dosen't line up right.
Also, if you are using a crusting buttercream, make sure you have a clean mat each time you use it. Wipe it clean each time and dust the mat lightly with cornstarch.
Good Luck!
