Hello all, Newbie here. Please be patient with me.

Perusing this forum has made me feel better. Thus far I've had a major disaster and naturally it was a wedding cake. A Three tier wedding cake with pillars that fell over. Sheesh.

Anyway, I was wondering if most of you have gone to school for or work in the food industry? I ask because I see some of the cakes and begin to think my measely little cakes are pathetic next to some I've seen.

I took the wilton courses and feel that I still have alot to learn. I dream about things like gumpaste and pulled sugar. hmmm. maybe someday.

Thanks...

Welcome to CC! I'm a cake decorator newbie myself, too, so you're not alone! icon_smile.gif I'm taking a Wilton class, too, and still feel that I have so much to learn.

I have about 20 cake decorating books here that I got it from my local library and it helped me to learn more so much from it. I practice and practice DAILY until it looks right.

I learned that both practice and patience are the key to become a good, fine cake decorator.

You are not alone - every cake decorator do have at least 1 cake disaster in their life. thumbs_up.gif Good luck!

I just opened up your website, and it is causing some trouble with my computer, won't let me close your site.....Elauria. something not right there.

(seriously not right - it took me 20 minutes to find a way off of your site) I ended up going to the contact us section and it gave me a bunch of error messages. You may want to have someone look into it.

I had problems, too but thought it was my PC since I had more than one window open.

Anyhoo, if you are worried after what I saw on your site, don't be! Great stuff there, I love the dragon cake! I am almost convinced I will not post any of my pics here! icon_redface.gif

Alright Zamode-you better post your cakes!!! icon_lol.gif We all see the flaws in our own work but something you create might give inspiration to someone else on here. We are all floored by some of the outstanding creations on here but that just gives me hope that I might be a 1/4 that good one day!

Elauria this is definitely the place to learn but from looking at your site you have a great head start!! Enjoy it here and welcome!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I was able to get the web site and the cakes are beautiful! I think part o the problem is just too many popups! My popup blocker went nuts! You might want to talk to whoever hosts your website about so many popups. May turn off potential customers.

But besides that, your cakes are beautiful and you do an incrediable job! Keep it up!!!

I, too, am in awe of all the great cake decorators on this site. I've only had the first Wilton course, and I've found out most of the other stuff I've used on the internet. This site is the best thing since sliced bread for cake decorators. Your cakes are great, and you definitely have a good eye. As for the person who doesn't want to post cakes because they are still a newbie, I have seen many cakes that may not have been sophisticated in technique, but the creativity that went into them gives everyone inspiration.

Hello all,

Sorry about the pop-ups on my website. Thus far I can't afford a really good one and so I went with piczo. It's free for me but the catch are the pop-ups.

Oh, and thank you all for the vote of confidence in my abilities. I guess the key is to keep working at it.

I have really enjoyed looking at many of the other cakes posted here.

I took coures 1&2 and starting 3 on Thurs. Worked in a production bakery
having to do 40 sheet cakes a day always the same designs and finally tought myself to do fondant about 5 yrs ago. I finally found the time to take the course 3 class hoping to learn new ways to work with fondant.

Loriemoms and dodibug, thank you for the support! Honestly, some of these people say I am just in Wilton 1 or just finished it and still my cakes are nowhere *near* what they are making. I haven't done much past your basic, plain ol' boring two layer with icing but still....it's encouraging yet intimidating. I know everyone here is great, though.

I have so many ideas and don't know how to make them come to life. In time, I reckon!

Elauria,

Your cakes are very pretty. I actually did not have any issues when I went on your website. I took the first Wilton course....but everything else I just experimented and practiced. I find that the courses that are offered in my area are not as good as learning in other ways(cake magazines, shows, websites, cake central...etc)

I think the best advice that I can give is to keep practicing and trying new things. You seem very creative and talented in your designs. thumbs_up.gif

I just had A look at your website. I love the cakes.

Is that the pic of the wedding cake that fell over? The pillars seem to be really close to the edge of the cake. Maybe my eyes Are crooked I will have A look at it in the morning.

I agree. It just takes practice. I took the Wilton courses from May-July last year and I started getting orders when I was in the first course. People seem to like my cakes but sometimes I look at some of the cakes here and I don't think mine will ever be that good. Your cakes are lovely. Good for you. I didn't have any problems with your website.
